Would bricking the stupid screen even affect the fridge itself? Should be no reason it, the simple compressor feedback circuit doesn't really need a screen. But I guess a device is not "modern" enough without a potentially fully bricking complicated software options menu to seet the cooling level instead of something - like I don't know - a fucking wheel...
