I've been downloading roms since 98 and haven't had any problems except that one time I seeded a PSX RE game, at which point I never seeded again and have been fine since. Direct downloads are always safe and if you torrent, just never seed and you should be fine.

OP, have you considered that you might have anxiety disorder?

I’ve a friend who is lawyer and is terribly afraid to even dl an emulator/roms to play old games of his childhood. He told me if he get eventually caught it could have repercussions on his career. Lol it's sometimes good to live in central Europe. We didnt have official distribution of basically anything in 80s and 90s so we pirated the shit out of everything. Not that we could have afford the real stuff if it was here. Anyway, nobody gave a shit about piracy, noone ever received any letter or got sued for downloading a game.

You will never ever EVER get a complaint for PURELY downloading a ROM. It is only in the case of utilizing peer to peer systems where you can risk getting a notice sent to your ISP - This is ONLY because you are actively sharing and uploading the data with peers during the download. HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, all fine because you're not the one distributing the data.

this is why we need to get all these street-roms off the web. people think they can just download whatever they want and end up holding the bag when it comes time to pay the piper, because Nintendo won't give you a refund for the roms you bought and you're not even allowed to keep them.
