One of the genesis' is actually a sonic mania statue, the reason the famicom is on its own is because of the short controllers, I just pull it towards me when I want to play, and the two consoles that are tucked away are a japanese saturn, and a second playstation. Consoles are pretty cheap at goodwill in my area so I'm stocking up while they are still only 5 bucks. All applicable systems run through the OSSC, save for the GameCube that uses HDMI out. All retro systems except the NES have a method of loading ROMs/ISOs. Please ignore the ratnest of cables.

Everything is hooked up. The only thing that doesn't "live" there is the Dreamcast, which is usually plugged into a modern wall mounted TV in another room along with a PS2 and some black plastic.

I agree there is a symmetry problem (the stuff piled on the right is creeping too high), and a structural problem with the sagging improvised "shelf" in the middle, but it would be prohibitively annoying to change now. It used to make me a little anxious too, but it has proven stable over a long time.
I use the table as a workbench too, so both corners are usually covered with some mess of a "project." The Saturn is there now because I'm currently tuning it. I just set the top case back on for the picture. All the controllers are usually stored in the drawers or bins.

All I do is emulate older games, with everything else in storage or tucked away. Don't even have a CRT anymore, but I wish I took a picture of my comfy little battlestation I did have back in 2014 that I thought was pretty shitty but looking back I miss it a lot. It was a crappy VHS combo TV that was on a futon that had a Dreamcast, Mega Drive and PS2 in front of it. Finished Skies of Arcadia on that thing so it had a lot of use.

Got drunk, leaned back way too far in my chair and knocked over my lamp, which hit my bookshelf and knocked almost all my PS1 games off the shelf along with my Japanese PS1. Most of everything came out alright, but the PS1 landed on my (reproduction) persona 1 case cracking it, my Gran Turismo 2 case cracked, and I later stepped on my Pac Man world, destroying the case. Fat PS2s are constantly breaking and it good to have a backup. Out of shot is like 3 slims. Plus if you believe randos on the internet PS2 emulation of a ps1 is inaccurate as it copied the very early ps1s with 5 bit texture modulating instead of the later ones with the full 8 bit after they switched from vram to sgram. Electrostats are finicky with placement. You must've heard a badly placed set. No way would Deftech (a home theater speaker above all else) out perform them.

I auditioned these against B&W Diamond 800s and Focal Sopra No 2 and the Golden Ear Tritons 1 (which is basically Deftech on steroids). All lack the magic of the electrostat. But admittedly, the placement is picky. .

Ps. Modern Martin Logan estats have very very little to do with vintage stax. The closet thing are the Stax ESL speaker line from the 80s. Because of the curved baffle of the modern estat designs you have issues with directivity, beaming and getting a good sounding soundstage without having to sit completely still. Forget about a second person trying to enjoy music with you with modern Martin Logan designs. Even Quad uses the same curved estat panel now. No idea why. Must have something to do with cost/complexity.

You seem into audio, so I think you should do reading on current Martin Logan designs. These speakers have dual 10" dynamic drivers each (probably crossed over to 200hz), so they won't, technically, lack any dynamics in the bass region. As far as soundstaging, they have built in Anthem room correction DSP.

But I gave the MLs a listen and they wiped the floor with the Kefs and the B&Ws (most overrated speaker company of all time). Listening to them was like listening to Stax headphones but instead of all the sound in my head (all headphones image small relatively speaking, but Stax image really small compared to open backs), it filled the room with that airy and detailed electrostat sound.

I've got a 2018 55" LG OLED TV for movies, and displaying album art, I also have a Analogue Mega SG hooked up to said OLED, and two Sony BVM's in my retro system. Been looking for a nice beanbag chair for a while now. Lotsa folks have nostalgia for cabinet TV's. I vr game on a composite only TV more than I use my fv310 in the garage. With the right console revisions (sharper image by default) and with a lot of trial/error adjusting picture/brightness/sharpness/etc you'd be surprised at how good composite can be. Shielded video cables can help a bit too. Yes it will always suffer from dot crawl, genesis banding and a little ghosting/ringing but I have nostalgia for these effects so it's comfy.

This. I have a PVM and use RGB because I can and I'm a faggot for maximum video quality, but composite isn't bad at all. Hell, I played most of my games on RF when I was young because that's just how we hooked it up, but I fucking lost my shit when I found out my TV also had a composite input and decided to use that instead, it felt like such a huge upgrade.

People should play using whatever they want. It's when autists start screeching that one is objectively "the right way to play" that I start getting riled. The worst are the ones that claim s-video is "all you need" or "identical to RGB", because then you know they're just trying to cope because they couldn't get a hold of anything better.

You don't HAVE to, though. Just be mindful of weight limits and use your own judgement when looking at how the supports are positioned, since most stands can hold more than they're rated for. I've had this setup on this stand (bottom pic) for well over a year, and despite being slightly over the weight limit, there isn't any bowing at all, but I also added the riser for the monitor so the weight is positioned directly over the supports for the shelf below. I often play with my feet up on the stand as well, and it has held up admirably. It's not from Ikea, but it's the same kinda particle board deal. The drawer units to the left and right ARE Ikea, but they're only holding the speakers, so whatevs. And before this, my setup (minus the heavy amp, VCR, and equalizer) was on a legit $40 Ikea shelf that held it just fine, too. Yeah, so that lower row of yellow/red/white terminals marked "input 1" is for composite video. The screw-on connector to the right that says "cable/antenna" is RF. Composite is definitely better, because it splits the video signal from the audio signal, while RF has them all together in one cable. Very cool, never knew this TV had that, my younger self would have appreciated the knowledge.

Toshiba is a 27A50; it has composite, s-video and component. It's connected to the BNC outputs on the PVM via SCART-to-Component converter. Audio is a Sansui 5000a connected to Polk Monitor 70 Series II speakers. It's a warm and bright setup that still has a punchy low-end, perfect for retro.

I'm sick of swapping power cables between consoles, but I have my entire PC setup, my CRT, flatscreen and consoles all coming from one power outlet with some power bars (only one in the room). I'm always worried about a fire hazard or surge. If I was to add another power bar for my retro consoles but only one is powered on at a time, could it put things at further risk or is it okay?

The culture of this board is to be a sarcastic asshole to one another and to insult other posters for trivial reasons.

My guess at why this occurs is because psychologically, a bunch of grown men collecting and playing retro video games is seen as a nerdy/lame hobby, and people feel insecure about it, so in order to prove they're not a loser they try to make OTHER people look like losers.
