Is there or will there be a better company?
Imagine video games without Capcom

I bought Capcom stock last year when they were extremely undervalued.

Had the stock put into my 401k.

the stock is now at a good value.

i enjoy capcom games, but they were one of the worst at nickle-and-diming their customers

>7 NES mega man games
>5 versions of street fighter ii
>a bajillion fighting games

any time they came across a good idea, they ran it into the fucking ground

The retro ip's of Capcom is what made me put Capcom stock in my 401k plan.

>> No.6054491

>>6054205
I don't think Mega Man counts as nickle and diming. All six games are different games with different powerups, no resued levels or robot masters. They follow a formula, but still wholly different games.
Street Fighter though... dear god.

>mega man doesn't count
fair enough

>street fighter
they released like 40+ fighters in the arcade from 91-01. it was fucking ridiculous

They should've made more games like ghouls n ghosts or improved on their medieval beatemups. GnG is my favorite arcade. Magic sword was also quite nice wish we got a second one.

>>6054205
I agree with you, SNK was worse though with its fighting games. There are just too many of them and not enough games like Magician Lord.

What's sad is you're probably too stupid to understand why you're so stupid, and too old to begin anew.

It's the easiest game in the GnG series. The game has a checkpoints and doesn't use credits.

Capcom used to be one of the best companies in video games. Now they're a mere shadow of their former self.

>> No.6056180

yeah i like them, most of their games are a bit convoluted though.
still, it adds to the charm somewhat once all that stuff is in the muscle memory.

Yearly re-releases of arcade hardware affected the game-players positively. Are you an arcade owner to bemoan this shit? You got a slightly updated version of SF2 every year and didn't have to pay ANY extra, dipshit.
As for their home games, every MM was a completely new game and was very decent to absolutely great.

>> No.6057683

>>6055275

To be fair, this is basically all of the Japanese companies that had their peaks from gen 4-6

Konami is kojima-less and probably locking into full re-release and rehash cruise control mode until they get bought or something
Namco is an embarrassment to it's PS1 era self
SEGA... lol...
SNK is fully Weekend at Bernie's mode and has been for a long time

etcetc

>> No.6057684

>>6055275
Actually, their recent games are very good. The likes of Kamiya or Mikami may have left, Clover may have disbanded, but they're easily on par with their 90s selves. DMC5 may not be as visionary as DMC1 or Bayonetta, but it's very much on par with DMC3. SF5 may be kinda stupid, but SF4 was brilliant. RE2Remake is on par with any non-Mikami RE game. They're doing pretty damn good. Again, easily on par with their 90s output. In what way is Dragon's Dogma worse than the D&D beat'em ups? (It isn't.)

They're one of the worst abusers of DLC exploitation and have a penchant for abandoning their fanbase to chase mainstream Western money. The RE2 remake was a step in the right direction though, I'll give them credit for that.

Disagree about SNK. They got a huge cash injection from China and are back to full on game development. The new SamSho is fucking great. The real test though will be whether KoF XV can break through to a bigger audience.
