Random but my uncle worked on at least one of these Akira games, don't think it was on SNES though, I am pretty sure he still has all the beta versions of games he worked on and probably the final versions as well so I have always wanted to go try it, he usually sent us a copy but I don't have this one. Problem is his house stinks like cat piss... is the game good? Worth enduring the smell of cat piss?

Yes I know. Would be interesting if someone found that rom, wouldn't it? Be interesting if someone was looking for it for five months, that's for sure. It would also be interesting if that rom was coming soon, after 25 years.

Perhaps Lord Akira is returning.

Yes. Seek it out. Where would this be? America or Britain? It will tell a lot about the version.

It amuses me how Kaneda walks like Lester the Unlikely. The 3D effect is nice, at least.

I've been meaning to email the programmer of some licensed PS2 shovelware game that never came out after I got his name from the credits on a prototype I own of said game. Maybe I'll get lucky and get more builds.

There are other ways. Most developers probably recognize the value, so even then it is rare for that to be economical. I know some developers have even just sold their stuff on ebay.

I always like these scenarios where they predict what the "far future" will be like 30-40 years out and it's always ultra high tech and the reality is it's the same as it was back then.

>> No.6043092

and then suddenly, all these sci-fi-future-flicks eventually take place in "today".

It is disappointing in that regard. Especially the better, more advanced futures that they envision in those stories. Lacking that tech sucks, but at least there is the Internet, which was almost never conceived in those stories.

Maybe we need something to cheer this thread up, really let people know that good things are coming their way. How about a sneak peek at some of the graphics for one of the prototype SNES versions of Akira?

Akira as a film is dogshit compared to the Manga and I urge you to read it. The film cuts and truncated so much it's unbelievable. Even from the first volumes like the first pill reveal. It's a huge disappointment

>> No.6048492

>>6048486
Akira film viewed standalone is great. Pretending you can do a play by play accurate portrayal of a large manga is unrealistic. Somethings gotta give.

>> No.6048509

>>6048492
Obviously, but the changes they make feel like a western adaptation almost. There are iconic scenes in the manga they never touch that could have fit in fine. Like the foot chase in Vol 1, The fight against Kaneda and Tetsuo in the nursery. So many others but those are later volumes

It's so different that if you be watched it you can still read the manga almost spoiler free. That's a plus I guess.

>> No.6048587

>>6048509
I like the film better. It doesnt explain everything, and I filling in the gaps with my own imagination way more than the official story that otomo intended. Akira himself is much cooler as a mysterious force than as an actual human little boy character who does things.

the manga and anime had different dates and timelines.

also they never made it quiet clear what exactly happened. this child akira causes a nuclear explosion in tokyo and it somehow leads to world war iii and all the major cities of the world getting nuked? it's never elaborated upon in great detail.

>> No.6050858

>the manga and anime had different dates and timelines.

The English translation of the manga uses different dates probably because Dark Horse published in 2000 and they wanted to keep a ~30 year gap difference just like the difference between the last Akira volume in 1990. It's the same in both versions and the 35th Anniversary English retranslation uses the year 2019.
