Did the green tint of the game boy screen add anything in your opinion

>> No.6034878

It added SOUL

>> No.6034879

It added SOUP

>> No.6034890

Like all handheld retro consoles, it's better to play in a way that lets you use a real controller, either emulation or SGB. And no one who actually grew up with or played the original grey brick GB ever liked the greenscale screen and how hard it was to get just the right lighting and angle to make everything visible.

>> No.6034897

Only downside with the green is that you basically have to be under light to see anything. Like nowadays there are mods or addons that make it so you can see the screen even in a dark room but a gameboy by itself caused a ton of issues for me just due to how dark the screen was.

It was actually the coolest thing about the original Gameboy.

>> No.6034906

It was shit and as soon as the Color came out I couldn't have gotten rid of the old brick faster. not having to fiddle with an almost useless contrast knob was amazing.

It was a wheel, one of the two on the GB. The other controlled volume, and the contrast wheel was clearly labeled. It was only good for getting it to the clearest it could be, then leaving it the hell alone.

In retrospect yes it did add a certain something, but back then everyone was dying for a better screen

Nothing, other than it would have been a hell of lot better than looking at a red screen. I've seen mods. It's horrible. Blue actually isn't too bad.

>> No.6035086

It added some unusual character. I don't know that that's a good thing. It doesn't really matter.

A green background doesn't make the picture dim or severely reduce its contrast. I don't know why people keep talking about those problems in this thread. Those were the real problems, plus the fact that it was a monochrome display. And they were obviously very big problems.

The fact that this monochrome screen's "white" was actually green, though, wasn't really a big deal one way or the other.

Pretty much. It was green because of cost reasons. Cheaper screen, better battery life, so if it weren't for that decision the Gameboy probably wouldn't have sold as much as it did, and who knows if Nintendo would have continued that gimmick if it had failed
