Bargain box is a disorganized mess of a store that rarely sells anything interesting, with prices too high anyways. Now warp zone in Columbus, that’s a retro game store

It hasn't stated yet. I don't even know which ramps they plan on closing. Probably 6th street off but I can't imagine which other one we could spare.

Classic game junkie in philly

Really cool store with fuckin anything you’d think of but it’s kinda sad that niggers swamp the place, try to steal empty cases and just throw it on the street outside when they realize nothings in it. Or just recently one swiped the donation jar towards children’s hospitals and just laughed and walked out calmly. Old man behind the counter is super nice and jokes around but is always STERN the first few minutes you are in the store/talk to him because you just gotta assume everyone is trying to steal in the diverse shithole that is Philadelphia.

Eh, I’ve been there in the last two months or so and it just doesn’t offer much I think, they have some rare nes games, but they’re really lacking For interesting stuff, like hardly any good genesis stuff, no master system, no Saturn, no tg-16, but if you’re only really interested in PlayStation and Nintendo then I guess they offer a good selection.

>> No.6012058

>>6011975
Closed up just this past month here in Whitewater. Level Up Games had a half decent selection, but I guess it just wasn't making the guy money like it used to and he wanted something that'd allow him to be with his kids more.
Now it's just some law office or some boring shit.

I took at look at the ODOT sheets, they want to close two whole thru streets off, i guess so the offramp traffic doesnt hit anyone. still dumb

>> No.6012079

>>6012068
Oh that makes sense desu those streets are barely streets where they go under the highway anyway and the way they come out at the bottom of the ramps is just asking for the few people who use them to be blasted by people coming off the highway too fast. So they're not actually changing any ramps then? Good.

Brick and Morter is dying and it's not just Used Game Stores. There's entire chains going out of business. Between Amazon and Violence nobody seems to want to go out shopping anymore.

How is anything supposed to stay in business now? Even the basic functions of advertising doesn't even seem to work anymore. How do you advertise to people who don't look at or listen to any mediums that traditional forms of advertisement would be on?

Even Facebook is dying.

Then they moved out of the mall onto the shopping center at the corner of Maple and Taylor that has since become a car wash. They moved back to the mall in what had been Maurice's until that slot got turned into Planet Fitness and they were moved to the other side of the corridor between Spencer Gifts and the arcade, which is where that photo was taken. During that time he sold the Newark shop to Maxine and limped along there in Zanesville for a while. Cheyanne didn't seem to want to run that type of shop so ultimately he sold off all the video game stuff to the bros that opened that location there on Harding. I don't even know those guys nor do I ever go in there. I don't know what happened to all the /toy/ and /tg/ and /co/ and /tv/. He may still be hauling it around to conventions to have something to do.

It's also common to have a broken item of whatever you purchased and use pictures of that to falsify that the item arrived broken. Again, ebay sides with the buyer and the seller gets fucked. There's all kinds of scams people can pull on ebay sellers because ebay is so pro-buyer.

No because every seller who's not a fucking retard puts the price up to deal with the paypal and ebay cut and handling fees. If you're doing it as an actual income source then taxes, inventory, insurgence, etc all factor in too.

Literally the only place in my state that sells retro games as a main feature of the store and has actually stayed in business and does quite well sells well below ebay prices because they're not fucking morons.

>> No.6018923

>>6018867
Yeah, that's what market value is. People with less overhead because they're selling locally, for cash, and/or on free sites can afford to sell below market value (or anyone can choose to really) but their demand will outstrip their supply - unless they're really really good at finding collections being sold off.

Basically price gets set relative to market value based on how quickly or slowly a seller wants sales to happen, which is dependent on their supply. It has very very little to do with how much YOU are willing to pay - especially now that pretty much anybody is willing to sell on eBay (unless you're willing to pay MORE than other people and are trying to drive market value UP). If you buy locally, you CAN make that argument to guys on Facebook that their prices should be maybe 20% less than eBay and that can work on small time sellers although on case by case basis there's probably even better arguments to make (best usually being "how much for everything"). Big Facebook sellers are already aware and do set their prices noticeably under eBay. Join some groups.

I haven't been to a retro game store in a long time, barring trips to Japan. I've just given up on buying in the US. Most every console I own is modded for something, so I just load roms or isos onto the card/cart/etc. and play that way. Japanese market is so much better it's not even worth bothering. Once in a blue moon I'll walk through to look at stuff. There's a shop in my old town that was mainly a used music store, but also had games. The prices tended to be bad, but occasionally you could find something they priced badly, ie. a PS3 memory card USB adapter for 5 bucks. They compare vs. ebay too so I can't say how that happened. I'd pretty much only go there now to get an original xbox or ps2 game.

Ton of decent stores used to be in Columbus, no idea if they're there anymore. Frankly I don't know what the point of running a physical store is anymore.

Five Below and Planet Fitness don't even have entrances into the mall corridor at all. It's a smart thing to do to to keep the mall alive but I don't know if it's going to be worth it to even have low-rent retail outlets use the back-side slots. >Brick and Morter is dying and it's not just Used Game Stores. There's entire chains going out of business. Between Amazon and Violence nobody seems to want to go out shopping anymore.
It's troubling. The major side-effect of this sell out to convenience will be mainstreets looking like this all over the world. If this is the future people want, fine I guess. But then at the same time they wonder why we feel so alienated, divided, and why everyone is "depressed," despite living in the amazing year of 2019 where everything is just click or swipe away.

Having local businesses to go out to builds social cohesion and prevents isolating yourself and your immediates (family). You often get to know the owners, fellow customers, etc, etc. Local businesses really are at the heart of any community. No one cares about any of that anymore. As long as I can get my Chinese made piece of garbage from Amazon via next day delivery and for cheap!

It's isolating, even if you're a zoomer neck deep into Instagram, twitter, or whatever the latest flavor of the month social media service is.

Look how loneliness was actually trending downwards, even lower than 1991. Then the iPhone asteroid hit and loneliness (which no doubt leads to depression, social anxiety, and the many other things that teenagers seem to suffering from in epidemic numbers) spiked.

Correlation=/=causation, and the iPhone release did happen a year before the recession, which I'm sure had an effect here, but I think the trend is pretty convincing.

Mine is cool and has a great selection but the owner seems to be a little over bearing at times. the first couple of times I went in he was nice, he went and showed me all his rare stuff, kinda talked over me the entire time but it neat seeing his copies of ET that survived the factory fire.

But around the third time I went in I just kinda wanted to browse by myself. I even mentioned it to him when he greeted me that "oh im just here to buy some games today". He still kinda got out behind the counter and started telling cool vidya trivia, and the difference between screw in and screwless cartridges. I didn't really buy anything that day because he kept bringing me back to the NES section and I was looking for PS1 games that day.

His store is big but he dosen't get a lot of customers, when I go inside its usually empty, I wanna be friends with him but he is the kinda guy that talks more then he listens. I am not even sure what I would talk about since he seems to know everything I would talk to him about like the back of his hand. I just wanted a copy of digimon rumble man shoot.

B&P used to be called Play N Trade, and they still have the same /vr/ consoles in the street facing display window and they actually care about retro, prices are decent but you can tell they troll eBay to determine how to price, same for Tech Exchange
Tech Exchange though has arcade cabinets in the store, but the problem with both of them is that because they are in Carytown, which is right next to VCU, its staff and patrons are serious fucking soibois and and hairdyed SJW shitters

Supply and demand.

A store wont have the same demand as ebay. Ebay can be accessed by the entire planet, your store cant.

Also, if you price the same as online value, you technically make MORE since you dont pay ebay or paypal fees.

Price your shit 10% lower or get fucked. There is a reason why game shops with competitive pricing actually stay in business.

There's something to be said for retail outlets. As a kid I loved going to Tiys R Us. Sure, maybe I'd only get one toy or something, but just being in a joyful environment, surrounded by fun, colorful things that made me happy made going there an experience. Still remember playing a GameBoy on one of those demo kiosks with the CRT display. Maybe getting that thrilled over cheap consumer goods is a bad thing, but still, the excitement and wonder over toys I might get and even toys I might never get was an experience in and of itself. Even now I have fun browsing booths at videogame conventions, even though I hardly ever buy anything because of the prevalence of lolwut pricing.

Last time I went to Toys R Us was around 2007-2008 and it was amazing how depressing and dead it felt. Made me wonder how much of it was simply that it was already on the way out, or if it were always that way and my kid brain just made it seem a lot nicer and happier (answer: it was probably both).

Things are fine in Zanesville. It's a shame that he Greenwood area like where you're pic is from became ghetto since it was historical and its a tragedy that graystones like that one ended up demolished. Habitat has come in and some what they could to slightly improve that area and the welfare programs are somewhat shifting the most problematic people into the government housing projects, some of which are also worse than others (in not saying the government is redlining but the government is redlining, though I guess they can). I'm sure you found be getting somewhat better deals through Yahoo auctions if you're only shipping inside Japan, too (or if you buy enough to make using a drop shooter worth it).

They had 200 locations in 15 countries at their peak. But you never heard of them because zoomer.

> Tower Records operated in Canada in the mid 1990s with a flagship store at the Toronto Eaton Centre at the corner of Queen and Yonge which opened in December 1995 and closed in 2001. Tower Records opened a second location in Toronto in the late nineties at North York Centre also on Yonge Street but was closed just prior to the flag ship store closing.
Straight from Wikipedia mate, so what if I’m a zoomer? I can’t help my parents had sex in 1993

Yes I do. Havent been there in a long time, ironically I live in Hillsboro now, so I drive by it all the time. I remember it having AES systems set up in a back room? And a Millenium Falcon model with a knob you could twist to turn the turret. I'll have to go back. They're opening a new location soon. Rainy Day Games has a special place in my heart too.

Decent? Not sure because I only bought things there in/of the 16 bit era. Got Rocket Knight for a good price recently. Mainly just peep in to kill time if Im in that shithole of a mall for any reason. Pop a few quarters in the MVS. Bought a slim ps2 power supply there. They just have some really cool random shit there, like I said. Panasonic Q and a PSX. Had a SNES store display console setup too, the one I first played an SNES on in 1991. Pic related

>Between Amazon and Violence nobody seems to want to go out shopping anymore.
Diversity (which causes Violence) is a great shopping centre emptier. Still, made me save money by getting subscriptions.
>How is anything supposed to stay in business now?
By buying from your Local Friendly Mighty Comglomerate of course! Funnily enough, we've come back to the Feudal System, where you toil your whole life to service the tiny piece of land you "own". The opposite might grow though - small communities of kin trading their goods and services, away from the watchful eye of big business.
> How do you advertise to people who don't look at or listen to any mediums that traditional forms of advertisement would be on?
Hopefully we enter a post-consumer society, where we foster things that are real: community over consumption.

Pirating takes more effort than going to the store, if you can’t afford to pay a loonie for a game like Tekken or a toonie for Panzer Dragoon then find a better job, maybe one that pays minimum wage

I don't know about that but the ones I do know seem alright. You got Video Trading Post and Retro Games & Toys Of LI in the Tri County Flea Market (both stores being in the same town is nice). I've bought some stuff from both places over the years at pretty decent prices.
