How do I get good at this game?

Is that Densha De Go? I've been wanting to pick up a copy for my Saturn and the controller.

Yeah. After some trial and error, I figured out it's a little more of a whimsy arcade game than an autistic simulator. But it's brutal as fuck.

If you have ever played the later titles on more powerful hardware you'll realize that the games are indeed super accurate. Why would they go through the trouble of replicating real train lines in Japan for them to not make it an accurate simulator? The problem is you don't understand what all the signs mean and what directions are given to you which is why you're failing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3kEiEyGaVM

Here is a decent guide for the beginner level lines. a lot of rules follow real life protocol, like honking before a tunnel, bridge, or crossing. You'll have to practice on the first games because later games introduce even more rules and things you have to do right to pass.

>> No.6017378

Tokyo Bus Guide on the DC has a similar concept. No idea if it's related to the Densha De Go series, but it is fairly brutal as well.

Even if it's not an autistic simulator, I see that it still draws an autistic fanbase.

I played one of the recent-ish (2010 maybe?) densha games on PC untranslated and had no problems with it. Very minor amount of trial and error but 80% of the time it's just "honk when something comes up in Japanese." Not a game I play often or for very long, but I still love it.

>> No.6018319

Imported all the Playstation releases. It all comes down to practicing the lines over and over until you get every detail down. Love these games. They're great to play after a long day. Very relaxing and comfy even if they're difficult. Good luck anon

Is that true? My understanding was that the later (non retro) games are more forgiving of errors and don't expect you to engage in as much route memorization, since they're no longer based on arcade titles.

For brand recognition. The rail replications are probably the least accurate thing of the game's anyway. They use time/space compression liberally, most the surrounding buildings are generic copy pasted structures, and the stations themselves aren't much more than a vaguely recognizable shape. I don't even know why you're using this argument anyway because arcade style racing games use licensed cars all the time.

I never played them but makes them so difficult to play for you guys? Do you think it's mostly the language barrier or are they actually challenging? Or is it due to the fact that you don't have the original arcade controller in front of you or something?

It's basically a game of ice curling. You launch the train as fast as you can and then finesse the brakes to stop at a precise point at a precise time. You get scored by how close to the bulls eye you get. And just to fuck with you, there's short warning speed limiters along the way.

Western train games seem to be more relaxed and focus on more technical aspects (?) of the whole thing. Japanese train games were created as arcade games, so they take the Japanese train punctuality and turn it up a notch. It's intended to be precise and harsh to eat up your quarters, so it's challenging. Eventually console versions and sequels got released and they relaxed a bit.

To be fair, it's not like you always have to play to the t. A lot of the games offer numerous lines from the start and most of the time even when you fail one part of the line the game still lets you continue on to the next part so long as you have enough points. You could get through most and even all of some lines being late to the station, stopping too far, even going too fast.

Contrary to waht some weirdos above are saying, Densha de Go is an arcade game designed for short bursts of excitement and are not designed to be in-depths, let alone to simulate anything whatever. They are just games of timing with cute and friendly railway aesthetics. If you don't brake in time you pass the platform and if you brake too roughly the passangers fall down cartoonishly and you are penalized a few seconds.

I have it for PC.
It's... boring. Also looks pretty much the same. The short draw distance with the often popping in of things makes it more annoying than in the non bullet train versions.
The audio sounded slow, maybe try speeding it up, if that's possible in the emulator?

The PSP games are pretty good if you like Final more than the other versions, which seems to be the overall opinion on the series.

The Audio Cracks are always a result of the emulation, often to do with 60fps games and synced audio to frame. To this day i wonder why those main problems aren't fixed in emulators overall.
