I've been mulling overe some ideas about suplementary magic system that would not rely on mana pickups.
Bsically introduces rewards for certain behaviour in form of mana generation:

1) You get elemental mana by maintaining high DPS and not getting hurt. Works by having stacks of potential to be generated while you maintain DPS, and that decay over time, or go down to 0 if you get hit.. While you have stacks you geneerate mana, the more stacks you have (the longer you maintained DPS above certain level) the more mana you get.
Does not work with BFG, penalty to rocketlauncher.

2) Dark mana by killing enemies on different light level from you hwen light level separation is at least 2-3 steps - like killing enemy that stands in light from the deep shadow, or killing enemy in the shadow while under a bright light.
IDK how to factor dynamic lighting into this, or if its even possible.

3) Death mana for killing enemies from up close (at least 224 units), the closer you are the more you get.

ZDoom is not relevant because it's no longer being maintained, unlike GZDoom. GZDoom can be set to look like ZDoom if you wish.

ZScript it the successor to decorate. It makes many things that are annoying and hard in decorate much easier to do, and also allows much more advanced manipulation of the game world and the things in it.

Pretty much every time you hit a switch that opens something in another level is at the end of the current level. And then a door or wall typically opens looping you back around to the exit/entrance.

The game does a pretty good job of flowing from one level to the next and when you hit a switch you should know if you kept your eyes open where that has opened because you have already seen or tried to get passed there.

Not him either. Imo the Unreal Gold is the best. I don't care much for return to Na Pali (the maps are fine, but the new guns don't do anything for me, and the characters voice is just pathetic sounding - should've kept him silent, no idea what they were thinking). But the deathnatch is great, the maps are all great, the original single player game is just a fantastic sight seeing tour (meet exotic new people, kill them). I love it. I don't think any modern game has come close to that feeling. Finding audio logs is a trope now, but it was a great way to keep the player alone and still tell a story. And if you didn't want to be alone the coop was fun too.
UT99 outdid it on the multiplayer front, but the original had a lot going for it. Map gimmicks like healpod, and trap doors. Darkmatches. Some more unique weapons than typical rockets and bullets, though those were there too.

Beat the "Trirune Discovery" quake set by JCR. Cool stuff, i was sad it ended so soon. The jumping and verticality is fun, but I noticed an issue with the general design. It's linear. Once you get a jump upgrade, every bit of platforming from then on requires that upgrade. It would spice things up if there was some Metroid-esque returning to a previously-inaccessible area with an upgrade. Weapon and monster balance is utterly non-existent. 90% of the time, joining a Complex Doom server means being stuck in a respawn room and occasionally getting one-shotted by monsters, then finally getting your respawn five minutes later, only to live for approximately 10 seconds before you're one-shotted and sent to the respawn room again.

It's unplayable without at least a dozen people, so as soon a server empties out, that server is basically dead until some intrepid souls elect to waste an hour of their lives sitting in spawn and waiting for more people to join.

It's a garbage mod with garbage maps and I wish it hadn't swallowed up two thirds of Zandronum's multiplayer scene.

Just finished MAP19: Dehydration from Eviternity.

Holy shit, this map is fucking intense. It takes an hour to finish it.
I liked it but at moments I felt like it dragged on for too long. But the overall map design was good. At one point I was saving after every monster encounter pretty much.

Nice textures and memorable map aesthetics. Some parts have a really cool architecture.

The Demons will not attack us because they know I am here at the Pits of Hell on sexual business. This includes the Demons. However, the Arch-Vile thinks that I am going to be an easy recruit for becoming a follower of the Dark Lord of the current age considering that I am having sex with a Baron of Hell. You can become much stronger yourself much like the enemies, namely getting that quad shotgun for yourself by killing them. Or getting a legendary rune so that you're as strong as the boss monsters. Also it's a randomizer mod, bad luck is expected at times like meeting a grey, black or white Colorful Hell mod monster in a small room, except the latter doesn't give you means to get really strong yourself. Not true. Perfectly doable in single player, hence the endless megawads I've cleared with it. You sure you're not playing on a server with like 10 extra difficulty mods like "insanelca" or "clusterfuck" which are meant so that the maps aren't too easy for multiple people (yet they constantly get cleared whenever a group of people get runes anyway)?

If you don't like potentially meeting strong monsters early on you can just use the mod that spawns monster tiers based on your current weapons for a balanced experience. That way you don't meet the army of legendary monsters you see online.

Been going through the official Doom WADs on UV, here's my opinion nobody asked for:

Doom 1 was pretty neat, nothing too crazy but I enjoyed the map design. Relaxing is probably the word I'd use.

Thy Flesh Consumed tore me a new one with the first two levels, but I liked it. Felt like a great accomplishment to get past the second level, then kinda smooth sailing from there.

Doom 2 was okay, enjoyed the new weapons/enemies, except maybe the chaingunner, revs can be annoying. Almost dropped the game in the middle third of the "city" levels. It picked up the slack later though.

Final DOOM TNT was eh. It's kinda easy and not that interesting, but interesting to see an effort put into slightly more realistic locations, like office buildings with desks and chairs. Scenery was about all that I liked though, some levels were offensive in how mazelike and puzzley they were in the wrong ways. The one that really got to me was the level where you have to shoot a corner of a wall to raise a platform and proceed, I believe it was called the Mill. It really fucked with me because many times throughout the WAD I tried to shoot switches just to test, and eventually got the message that you just didn't do that kind of thing in this WAD. Except for two situations, on the second one you have to shoot a wall that could just as easily have been a button, right in front of you. Not to mention shooting UNDER the hole in the Icon of Sin to kill it. Did I get a bugged version?

Currently going through Plutonia, using the MIDI Pack for it. Despite it randomly bashing my head against a wall sometimes, it's probably been my favorite of all the games so far. Go 2 it was especially memorable and fun, I think I'm developing some masochistic sense for challenge. Thankfully it seems there's no shortage of slaughtermaps. Hope the second half of it remains about the same quality.

You can't have a guy going up against all this crazy shit and be half bare with some standard vest, people would think it was silly. The least he could get is some better protection.
