Discuss anything related to arguably the greatest retro videogame developer ever.

To get the ball started:
What are your favourite games by Treasure for each platform?

Never ever.

I like bangai-o on n64 way more than the soulless dc remake. Nah just kidding dc has soul too but I prefer the 64.original for a numer of reasons

>> No.6021778

Their Genesis output was so consistently good that it's hard for me to pick a favorite. I'm going to say Gunstar Heroes but on another day it could be Dynamite Headdy. My favorite Saturn game of theirs is Radiant Silvergun. I wanted to like Guardian Heroes but I don't really like playing bmups on one player mode and the only person who was down to try it with me didn't like the RPG elements or the way it was three distinct parallel planes you could move back and forth on or switch between (like multiple games of Ninja Warriors) instead of one big plane (like Streets of Rage or Final Fight) you could move on in 8 directions. So, RS got a lot more play from me and I really loved it's style.
I haven't tried their games on other platforms. Mischief Makers wouldn't work right in the emulator I tried. I am in the process of getting a Dreamcast up and running so I plan on playing Bangai O someday soon. Sorry for blogging.

>> No.6021856

Why is Ikaruga so good? How did they come up with that mechanic?

>> No.6021923

When did Treasure lose their mojo? Wario World was pretty medicore, especially compared to their past work, yet their GBA games were good from that era. Was it limitations imposed by Nintendo? All they do now is port Ikaruga to various platforms.

Anyone play the Bleach games and know if they're worth playing? I have no investment in the anime.

I mean, all they did was rehash it from Silhouette Mirage.

Just change Guardian Heroes to Silhouette Mirage and Gradius V to Stretch Panic and you have my list.
Astro Boy is their most underrated game IMO. If Alien Soldier and Gunstar Heroes were mashed together with a story-driven beat 'em up, it would be Astro Boy.

I read that translation of the interview where NAMI speaks of how he devoted so much of his time and talent to make his dream game only to get cut off at the last minute and still not even be close to done. I doubt he's got that same devotion to his work now, which is a shame since he no doubt knows how great the Treasure Genesis trilogy (Gunstar, Headdy, and AS) was.

Controlling Bangai-O feels much more satisfying to me on the N64 controller than on DC. On N64, you can move with the d-pad, and shoot with the control stick, takes a bit of time to get used to it but once it clicks, I could never go back to using the c-buttons.
On DC, I think your only option is shooting with the face buttons.
Then some other changes in gameplay, on N64 you can always shoot a maximum of 100 projectiles at a time, and if your meter is full, you can shoot 10 times in a row, that means 1000 projectiles. On DC, you're limited to whatever enemies are on screen.
All in all, DC is easier because it lets you fuck up less.
Both are pretty good anyway, but I prefer the 64 original. There's also some other minor things I like about it better, such as Bangai-O's sprite itself.
