I know Shenmue was originally planned to be more than three games, but this could very well have been Suzuki's last chance at giving us a satisfying conclusion. Without kickstarter money, I could see it being difficult to get another game off the ground, and we could be back to where we were at the end of 2 again. Okay two things, a) it sounds like you haven't played it yet so going by looks is poor form, and b) even so, what about it looks bad? The fishing minigame is fun, chopping wood is actually a lot of fun, the main game is the same thing going around talking to people as its always been, the fighting is alright for the type of game it is (no one's expecting Tekken here).

You say animations are bad, but I think that his partly the point, to mimic what a Dreamcast game would look like in modern day with just fancier graphics. It's not supposed to be fully motion captured, and if it was it'd look out of place for Shenmue. Half the charm is how budget the voice acting is and how austistically stiff Ryo is in speaking and walking.

It needs to be optimised, and maybe like 5-6 NPCs look like cartoon characters. Some dialogue scenes look like camera glitches and need to be smoothened out also. Also doesnt cap at 30fps, can make performance issues. So hopefully all this gets patched up.

I'll probably play ot eventually but I really dislike just how different Ryo's model is and how weightless the animations look. The original games had some stupid things about them by virtue of the limitations they had at the time, but in their day they looked better and had higher production value than most games. It's noticeably a much cheaper production now. I can't really complain, I'm glad that it got made, but just given how much time has passed and the budget they were working with it's obviously just not the same thing anymore. This is true of the combat system too. I can forgive all of this if it still has the heart of what makes Shenmue enjoyable, but I'm not exactly clamoring to play it right now precisely because of these things.

You can emulate the game on PC and have all benefits of the shit remaster while also excluding the newly introduced bugs, shitty new HUD, incorrect music timing and shitty reverb, badly converted voice overs, crashing / freezing mini-games.
