I have the runes for infinity, but don't have a base. I had two eth threshers, but they both rolled with five sockets. I've been running Cows and AT with zero magic find on P5 for five days now, but only non-eth Threshers have been dropping.

I was sick of getting btfo by nihlathak (even with a 93 sorc - maybe I'm just retarded) so I thought it would be easier to use ce via death sentrys before he could. I'm still yet to get torches myself, I only have 3 nihlathak keys but I'm not exactly farming for them either.

I'm using some decent get but defiantly not the best - hoto, spirit, wealth, stealskull, goldwrap, 23mf/39 Lires/30frw boots, chance guards, dwarf star, raven f, highlords and annihilus. No skillers. Merc (nm offensive) is using upped durials shell, gface helm and infinity.
And for my smiter the main two items are grief and a life tap wand.

i think so. the combat is simpler, though good in its own way because it makes positioning more important, but d2 adding overworld areas made the game less fun imo. and d2 has the issue of not having all your skills unlocked until you've gone through a decent chunk of the game once already too.

Is there a list of all the super chests in d2. Found info on sparkly chests but not much on super chests.
I know of a couple offhand but not sure of other ones.

Black marsh - at the cabin
Mausoleum/crypt/tower - either t junction or dead end with pillars on 'west, north, east' sides
Lost city - in rectangle ruin with 3 doorways

I happened to be level 42 or something when I joined a group rushing through normal and because I was over 40 he was able to rush us all into hell for chaos runs.
I'd like to play some other classes but it seemed like a fluke I got lucky with that full rush.

install plugy if you want better storage space, some QoL stuff and access to online-only content.
other than that, go with a magic/caster the first time because the game is slow and challenging with melee builds.
Summoner Necro, Hammerdin, Elemental Druid are all good builds that dont have to worry too much about monster's Immunities.
Bowzon is surprisingly decent as well, she wont kill as fast as the above but again you should be able to clear the game through Hell on her as a newbie pretty easily.

You can clear Hell on almost any class/build but sometimes doing so either requires expensive/rare gear, patience or good knowledge of the game.

I remember I rolled a nearly perfect grief in a 15 ED Zerker axe for my whirlwind barbarian. Had max damage and was only 1% off perfect increased attack speed, but you only needed to roll 35 or higher (I think) for his particular build to reach max IAS, so it was essentially perfect. It was probably the nicest item I ever got in years of playing. I specifically remember finding the axe and holding on to it the longest time until I ultimately got the right runes. Still makes me a little sad knowing that character expired with it. He was super fancy and I poured all my virtual wealth into him. Still only went like 50/50 vs Smiters but spinning around in a triangle around those faggot Paladins was always fun.

From what I've read, eth thresher is the best base to make it in. Others may have higher damage but the thresher has faster attack speed, better avg damage and therefore higher damage output.

It's good for cheap armor If you have nothing else but when you're ready to make top tier armor you want just plain eth bases and socket them. More risky because you could end up with 1 soc instead of x and ruin your base. You'll get an 'e-bugged' armor that has a higher defense rating than if it would drop with sockets. The 'e-bug' applies the ethereal bonus again when you socket eth armor.

For the first time ever, I have actually beaten act 5. Now in nightmare difficulty on my necro. I guess it's about time I start figuring out how runewords work. Kinda wish I had a Sol rune so I could make a Lore helm. Want more skill bonuses. All I have now is a wand with +2 to summoning skills and a head with +1 to skeleton mastery & corpse explosion.

Stealth body (usually people make this act 1 normal though, so i'm gunna assume you already have it)
slap Rhyme into a good 2 socket skull that has good +skills
go to act 2 and shop at Drognan until you have a 2 socket wand with +2 poison & bone skills on it. put the runeword "White" in it.
on switch, have Edge runeword in a bow. it's not much but it's handy to switch to when your skeles are tanking something hard (like a boss or a tough champion pack) and also when you're buying shit. if you have enough Attack Rating you can also plink away with some arrows for fun if you want.
resists and MF in all your other slots.
if you want to save some skillpoints, you dont NEED Corpse Explosion to be maxxed to 20. especially with +skill gear you can get away with only putting a few points into it until it's radius is like 8 or 9'

get smoke runeword in an eth bugged body for your merc
make insight on him
go with Might Merc from Nightmare Act 2, failing that Holy freeze.

D2 had better end game content and was a better loot treadmill. I played a lot of D2 but never beat Act 2 single player because it is too large and gets dull. D1 I dust off for single player every few years. Rouge is the easiest to start with. Sorcerer lets you do the coolest stuff but starts hard. Warriors start easier but have the hardest endgame.

Just gearing in general got streamlined in some builds, where they get passives or synergies that take care of your stats, rendering crafting useless in those cases. MXL is more about the the content that Hell difficulty offers now than before, I even bet that if they have the opportunity of removing the Nightmare difficulty completely they would have done so by then.

Just go with PoD if you don't like MXL, it's another mod that has an active community, it is vanilla d2 but they polish all builds so they are all at the same level, and copied PoE's homework for some of the new content. Only downside is that the latest version is realm-only.

Anyone find anything exciting lately? I got a Lo, Vex, and a 7% MF small charm from Lower Kurast today. I can almost taste trading up to that Ber

Alternatively you can grab the glide wrapper at http://www.svenswrapper.de/english/ and use that to run it in fullscreen. It also has some other goodies but some people prefer the other graphical modes over glide/3dfx since they look slightly different.

If you compare screenshots it looks a bit different. I believe light sources also work a bit differently. Spell effects lighting looks a bit different and so do the light "auras" around champion and rare monster packs. There's also some tiling bugs on glide where you can see the edges of the texture tiles like in the lava in act 4 but all the benefits of the glide wrapper turn me to use it anyway.

it's a weird one, because while most melee builds will struggle to GET to Hell, she #YOLOs her way all the way there, whether you go Cold build or Strafe/Multishot.
By Hell she starts to lose steam though unless you have crazy good gear, but her strength is she doesn't have any problem with immunities.
Her downside is she can't really equip much MF compared to other classes.
But it's an option for someone who doesn't have any characters who've completed Hell yet.

You use what you find or can make. The builds I mentioned can clear the game with really barebones gear thought its a huge benefit if you're playing in b.net or using something to enable ladder runewords in single because spirit is OP and easy to make.

But basically make cheap runewords, buy good items from vendors and gamble or get a couple decent drops. Only melee and bow builds actually need gear to do damage.

Makes me a little sad, because the last time I played I ran across Rixot's Keen just randomly in the Catacombs jail when I didn't even know it existed. Made me wish I had more cool little items like that, as my favourite part of any character is when it's brand new and I'm doing the first two acts. I don't know what to say to you. That Zod was actually cubed from Jahs and Cham I had laying around doing nothing since I built everything else. As for Tal Rasha's, got two. Been playing since April on 2-3 hours average every day. My best suggestion I always give is to never search for anything in particular, just enjoying grinding while you listen to music, relax. I had dry spells but also great luck. This season I got two Griffon's, a Templar's, Metalgrid, all the runes for best runewords. Missing 23 items for Holy Grail, still no Death's Web but it'll drop soon when you least expect it. That's what I love about this game and how I play it.

Nah. Let's say we're on a level 90 Necro. 15 base strength at level 1. We need to spend 27 points, then our Average Anni and Torch gives us +30, shako gives us +2, Mara's gives us +5, at this point we have 79 which is more than enough for the MP which will give us (90*0.75) 67 strength, letting us equip our marrowalk boots which at minimum give us +10 strength and then we've got our spirit monarch. So if you're using a spirit monarch, you save 24 points to dump into vitality by going with an MP over an AP, and you only lose ~200 defense, which again, is nothing.

Yeah most of my builds use spirit shield, at the moment anyway. I'm pretty sure the others would hit 103 with their gear. I have some pretty good rings/ammys that bump strength a fair bit.

Side note, how shit is fcr on the assassin. Normally run the 105 on my sorc, but currently at 65 on the trapsin. 11 frames feels like such a slog compared to 8.
