Fusoya as a party member kind of bothers me, he feels sort of half assed. He interrupts the final party of the game that you've pretty much already cleared a world map with, just for the penultimate dungeon, while not even offering a new class type as he's Tellah plus. Kain's second brainwashing doesnt offer anything to the plot outside of just making room for Fusoya, and really, Fusoya's contribution to the plot is just late game infodumps that could have been accomplished in plenty of other ways (hell Kluya's spirit seems perfect for this), and skipping a Golbez bossfight.

You think there might have been alot more to the moon segment earlier in developmen or something?

Sounds like you played it as an adult with an adult's cynicism. I played FF4 (or rather 2) when I was a kid and I thought getting Fusoya in your party was fucking awesome.

I played FF4DS in like late highschool and it was on replays that i noticed how out of places he seemed in the party member rotation.

Probably because the script was condensed to 1/4 its original size because of cartridge limitations (yes really, with this and Secret of Mana is it any wonder Square jumped to CD as soon as they could?). Takashi Tokita claims that it was only "unnecessary dialogue", but I doubt all that was just NPCs going "Wow, a dark knight, scary but cool" and such, it sounds like company-mandated damage control like when Sakaguchi had to lie about the state of Final Fantasy IV Famicom.

I guess that explains it, probably would have made more sense to just dummy out Fusoya though

When the SNES was the hot new kid on the block and its version of FFIV (called FFV during development) was around the corner, Sakaguchi had to fib and say the NES version didn't even get off the ground, many concepts got reused in the SNES version, and the story wasn't even finished so you weren't missing much and there was nothing to worry about. Basically, he had to make it sound as if the NES version was just a tech demo that evolved into the SNES version, despite both being developed at the same time. He was asked about it again when FFVI was in development, and he revealed that the game was actually nearly complete and essentially in beta (about 80%). It's up there with Seiken Densetsu Disk System and Secret of Mana SNES-CD as one of the lost Square classics that could have been. Who knows if Square Enix still has it or if it's been thrown away forever.

Rumor has it that FFIV Famicom eventually morphed into a non-numbered FF..but I wouldn't place too much stock in that idea since what we know of it sounds completely different.
