Anyone ever paint a retro console? Anyone have any tips or pics they'd like to share?

I wasn't even aware that this was a thing until last night. Pretty cool.

I'm thinking of painting my Genesis pink, but I've never done anything like this before and I'd imagine I'm shit with an airbrush.

I'd prefer to have my NES painted much like the one in OP's picture. Touch up the color on it. Paint the top a pure white, give the bottom a nice stone grey color, retouch the text on it so it stands out, and make the whole thing glossy.

I would honestly like a GameCenter CX themed NES. Can anyone help me with some preliminary design ideas? I was figuring the NES would be Black and Gold, and the top part of the NES having the GCCX logo on it. I was also thinking the logo could be cut out and have a clear piece of plastic under it so that it can light up. I was also thinking that the doorlid should say "Nintendo Famicom" with the traditional FC font on it, since Arino uses an FC instead of an NES.

Any other suggestions?

I might sound like a bit of a douchenozzle here, but: I think that as collectors we've kind of got a duty to preserve these systems as well as possible while still enjoying them.

On the other hand OP's shit looks great. Hipster or not it's an absolutely amazing finish and something that's obviously been done with a lot of love. I still just can't shake the nagging voice in the back of my head telling me that's one less working NES out there for future gamers to enjoy.

>I'm thinking of painting my Genesis pink, but I've never done anything like this before and I'd imagine I'm shit with an airbrush.
If you must 'defile' a console then do everyone a favor and pick up one of the many broken machines floating around ebay for literally pennies. If you fuck up (good, even airbrushing is a real art) then nothing was wasted, and if you don't you can simply swap cases and you didn't murder a 'vanilla' machine, you rescued one.

Keep an eye out for the daily GCCX thread, grab a link, and watch an episode of a game you like, I think you'll like it. I was thinking the controller could get a similar treatment, with the corner that has the Nintendo logo replaced with the GCCX logo and the Nintendo logo directly under it. I was also thinking that the left of the cross and the A button to be panted gold and have angular lines meeting at the bottom, with the phrase "To continue, hold left and press A" being between the lines. Well, whatever he said in that one episode for his "gravestone", which was a Hudson continue trick.

This. If you're going to do this pick up a dead machine or one that's scuffed up or yellowed. Your first step is going to be a giving it a good sanding down anyway. You can get the look you want AND pass your decent case on to a machine that dearly needs one.

I actually am. I work for a branch of Sony, and part of our job is to locate any and all Playstation one and Playstation two consoles and games and we buy them and destroy them, reclaiming the plastics and metal for Sony's new console. We do this so that more people when looking for a game console will choose to buy the latest consoles instead. I'm pretty sure Microsoft has a branch that does the same.

I did the standard 'black Amiga 1200' thing this way. Grabbed a 'nicotine gold' donor machine from ebay and then waited almost a year for an unrepairable CDTV keyboard to show up just because I couldn't live with destroying a working example of something so rare just for its pretty black keycaps.

My old case 'revived' a machine that would have probably ended up scrapped or parted out, and I wound up repairing three CDTV keyboards that just needed a bit of love before finding my truly dead donor. My conscience is clear.
