I am sorry but this game is garbage. Every next level is a copy of the level before, it's fucking repetitive after half hour.

There is a hint of truth to that but it needs explaining.

A chunk of early MS games work by displaying characters by drawing them in the background. This was done to allow more characters and bigger with no flicker. The drawback was the choppiness. Some games that use this technique are Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Space Harrier, Laser Ghost, etc.

Then there a few British developers that, for some reason programmed games at 30fps...

For the most part, most games ran at 60fps, just like the NES

SEGA SYSTEM

>> No.6014581

The Sega master system z-80 processor is faster then the z-80 used in the zaxxon arcade game.

It's a shame Sega never did a arcade perfect port of zaxxon for the master system.

About equal. Technically, the SMS had a larger palette and more RAM, but the SMS never had the expansion chips in cartridges to expand the capabilities of the system like the NES had. Base hardware, the SMS could maybe beat the NES. Add in the MMC1 or MMC3, and the NES trounces the SMS.

Anyone trying to bring up clock speeds needs to gb2school and learn what the fuck they are talking about.

framerate does matter, retard. In fact, I'd say it matters more. side-scrolling 2D games at 30fps feel like total dogshit.

Anybody else think that most modern "retro" 8-bit style games look more like SMS titles than NES? Stuff like Shovel Knight etc. Despite the NES being the 'classic' 8-bit system they're usually trying to hark back to.

Obviously being modern games they're technologically far past what either system could do, but I just find the overall style and aesthetic usually more matches the graphics (and the palette) of the SMS.

During 4th gen? It was fairly equal in USA, and maybe Sega took the lead a bit at some point, but then Nintendo took the lead again at the end.
3rd gen? Sega dominating anyone?

Yes you see in britbong, you need additional licensing to make games for fps higher than 30

I don't agree with him, but the Master System dominated pretty much every market outside North America and Japan. Though that's as much down to Nintendo fumbling the NES in international markets as it is Sega doing anything right.

>> No.6017000

Sega of Japan were not good at marketing.

Sega of America marketed the genesis better then Sega of Japan

Tectoy marketed the Sega master system
and genesis better then Sega of Japan.

Just a heads up, during actual 3rd gen times in Brazil, Master System wasn't the most popular, bootleg famiclones were.
Tectoy's Master System has a reputation because SMS are still being sold to this day, but it was always more of a "cheap 8-bit Sega system" during 4th gen times, it didn't really compete in actual 3rd gen times, where, again, Famiclones dominated.

>> No.6017636

>>6016543
The Famicom also had expanded audio, the FDS alone has more games with expanded audio support than the SMS has in total. Not to mention the Famicom did eventually get an FM synth chip from VRC7, and Lagrange Point beats everything the SMS has to offer. Alone.

Not only do I know about it, I put the mod in my own master system. Doesn't change the fact that most of the library is primarily awful low channel PSG, and when I grew up with the system, such mods were not a factor yet.

Hell, even WITH the damn FM mod, it's still not as impressive as what was coming out of Sunsoft and Konami games at the time. Also Lagrange Point sounds better than Phantasy Star.

I don't mean to sound like I'm dumping on the Master System, like I said, I was lucky enough to grow up with both, but man, the NES just always filled the room with sound.
