Not retro, but Torchlight series is good, as well as Path of Exile. Grim Dawn is also excellent.

For something older, the absolute best ARPG outside of the Diablo series is Titan Quest, and a close second is Dungeon Siege I and II.

I really wish I had more friends willing to couch co-op these older games with me.
Also, although it's non-retro the newest Gauntlet was pretty fun, I'd recommend giving it a look if you haven't already.
