Probably because Robotech was an american made-up series combining 3 different anime, Macross got some good games, best one probably being Scrambled Valkirye.
By the way, I think the N64 Robotech beta was dumped some time ago, I still never tried it, looks good.

Granbelm was a surprising good SD Wataru + Madoka/BRS show that came out of nowhere because they wanted to do a 2D robot show.

Most of my favorites have already been named already: Virtual-On, Musha, Gundam W: Endless Duel, Omega Boost, Bulk Slash, Macross: Scramble Valkyrie, Xenogears, Cyberbots, Metalstorm, Assault Suit, Kikaioh, Custom Robo, Front Mission, Armored Core, Bangaio, Bari-Arm. there's just so many good ones. Can anyone help identify a game I've played in the arcade in 1995 I believe?
It were two giant mech cockpits, back to back. The dominant colors were white and blue, and I remember large speakers integrated in to the seat. There were no hydraulic effects or anything.
The style was flat-shaded polygons and you fought inside a large arena with trenches and barricades.

Honestly, i just randomly picked up SRW because i had a PSP and the games for that were recommended by someone, i wasn't even really into Mecha anime, never even saw Gundam or Evangelion, after playing MX Portable, the Z games...and A Portable, i wanted more and i actually started looking at mecha anime.

SRW may not be the deepest series out there, but even without knowing japanese, it's a lot of fun and introduces people to a ton of series, i swear, if not for SRW, i wouldn't have known that OP posted a picture of Daitarn 3.
