Is the demo version of Aladdin in this a fixed-up-for-consumers version of the prototype build that was dumped a little while back, or is there something completely new to it?

>> No.5984236

I feel so ambivalent toward the 90s Disney games released by Virgin.
I have nostalgia for them, but I know full well they aren't as good as the Disney games Capcom or Sega did.

This release contains a demo version of Aladdin. It is either a new prototype or an altered for retail sale version of the following prototype which was dumped from a prototype cartridge a little while back:
https://hiddenpalace.org/Aladdin_(Chicago_C.E.S_demo)
I'm guessing they took this proto ROM and altered it to be a more readily accessible version, instead of just including the actual buggy prototype since including something like that would probably make people who didn't "get it" whine about bugs or something.

Virgin Aladdin has good sprite animation and good presentation. As a game, it's just OK, not better than anything Sega or Capcom did for Disney.

Search on the archives, /vr/ has always had a consensus that Virgin's game has good sprite animation, but Capcom's game has better everything else.
You'd be hard pressed to convince people that Virgin's sketchy hitboxes and land detection make for a better game than Capcom's tightly designed game.

Sure, you can call it "mediocre" if you want, still miles ahead of Virgin's game, with its unfocused level design and messy hitboxes.
>I don’t need to see you spam the same sentiment ad nauseam.
Well that's the thing with anonymous discussion, you always have the samefag paranoia. But nah, I'm certainly not the only one arguing this.
I encourage you to pertake in actual discussion and explain why you think the Virgin game is better than the Capcom game other than on the sprite animation technique. Try to focus on the games and not calling me names.

Virgin Aladdin is just a prototype of Earmworm Jim, which not only the latter spots the same gorgeous sprite animations of Virgin Aladdin but also has better gameplay and levels.
If you wanna play an Aladdin game just go for the Master System / Game Gear version or Capcom's.

Its neither.
I extracted the rom from the gog release and if you open it with hex editor it has the same build date as the CES prototype but the files are not the same. The new variant has been patched.
Changes unknown.

>> No.5986838

>>5986729
Thanks! I'd seen some gameplay where it looked like they'd fixed it up some to be more presentable, probably since the actual prototype is buggy. Either way, the date indicates it is just a modded version of what's already out there.

Probably got too overshadowed by the 16-bit gay consolewar, and, like you said, assumed to be a weak port, like what Gameboy got. Master System was losing its first-world market presence by that time, anyway, so probably not many copies were sold, either.

Just like most people agrees that new games are better than old games because of bettur grafeex.
Virgin Aladdin had more of an impact because:
-Amazing sprite animation technique
-Sega advertised the game themselves, Nintendo didn't advertise Capcom's game.
But when you actually compare both games, I think the Capcom game accumulates more pros, the only advantage on Virgin's game is the animation really. I don't think anyone could argue that Virgin's game has better controls or level design than Capcom's with actual examples.
