Not bad for $20, assuming you're trying to play on a CRT. Wii is probably a better investment though even at that budget.

I was gifted a “retron” years ago and just the other day I resorted to playing it when my childhood genesis finally kicked the bucket. I plugged it in and heard something pop and then the console smelled like something melted inside, so I think they’re shit.

Waste of money. Either emulate for free or use the actual console.

>> No.5981243

If you have some old carts lying around want to play them casually for a few minutes it's not bad, but if you actually want to play the games through properly it sucks

I would love a version that could play 5200/ Atari 8 bit and Atari 7800 games.

Not so bad. I had an SNES version to play Earthbound for the first time on a Sony Trinitron. The only issue I ever had was a small input delay and needing to get a better controller. Other than that it's not so bad if you do not go cheap on them.

ive been wanting to get the Plus version of this so I can play my NES games since my current NES is a pain in the ass to get running properly. Also i have SNES and a few Genesis games. Yeah i can just use a computer to play everything but i like the ritual of putting the cart into the slot (lol) and using the original controllers.

I pulled apart a retron I got from someone once and they use fucking twist ties for interconnects. They're terrible and I'm not sure why you wouldn't just use a softmodded wii.

It was a wire between the mainboard and a daughterboard. Not sure what you'd call that other than an interconnect.

They're really not good. Sound issues, emulator lag, and just poor build quality. Not worth it at all.

Oh, I get what you're talking about now. Yeah, those are cables, not "twist ties", and they're a great way to get connections from one board to another, especially when you need that connection to be flexible. They're very common and used in all kinds of things. PCE is the first console comes to mind.

I have the retrobit(?) duo and it's not bad
Won't play BATTLETOADS without freezing though

Garbage peice of plastic. Emulate and get a decent controller.

No, I mean they use these kind of twist ties that are connected and there was like 4 still connected. I get that it's just steel wire and it works but it doesn't exactly instill any confidence to see that sort of stuff.

if you're going to try and tell me these aren't the same twist ties I get at the grocery store to tie my produce bags then you're full of shit. it was actually a retroduo btw, not a retron, but it's all the same garbage.

I like my Retron 5 for the simplicity of hooking it up to the same HDTV as the rest of my newer consoles, but anyone who tries to convince you it's a worthy replacement of the original hardware is retarded and is trying to meme you to death.

It gets the job done on a budget. I like how the Super Retro Advance does not need to use its breakout AV cables only if plugged into the Super Retro Trio.

Personally I never used them. I think they're fine if you're starting out, but if you really wanna get into retro game collecting I think you would get more out of your money if you just save up for a real NES / SNES / GEN and get good video cables. They will look as good as you would get through HDMI via emulation except it's the real deal.
