Since we already know Sonic 1 is the best Sonic game, let's talk about the best next thing: Sonic 2.
What's your favorite zone? For me, it's Aquatic Ruin Zone, the patrician's choice.

>> No.5977758

First four are great, then it’s a steady decline. If I had to choose one probably Casino Night just because of the music. It evokes a strange emotion in me, like of some kind of wistful escapism.

Same for me but with Hill Top.

>> No.5977825

But was it cool, or karp?

>> No.5977834

1, Marble
2, Chemical Plant

Also Sonic 1 is the worst of the classic games, it's not a bad game but it's the least fun.

Sonic 1 is the best, as evidenced by you yourself picking Marble Zone as the best Sonic zone (close, it's actually Spring Yard)

It's not action packed enough for me. And no, I don't think spindash and power ups make the subsequent games any "easier", the only difficulty I find at all in Sonic 1 is some poor level design moments, it's just that it's more fun to be able to satisfyingly be an action packed hedgehog super hero than it is to be a hedgehog Mario

I'm very smart and I'm very correct. It's fun to have to choose between a lightning shield to get elevated jumps and more rings for more lives, or a fire shield to blast through enemies like a badass. It's also nice to have an aggressive attack like spindash rather than awkwardly moving back and forth like a retard to get a roll going to take out some ground enemy who's better off just being ignored and jumped over. It's also nice to have the insta shield and hone your timing to perfectly nail enemies who otherwise would damage you.

It's more fun, dodging enemies is not more fun than killing enemies.

Hill Top Zone music is really rough to me. Sounds like something you'd hear in a Western developed game, not from Sega themselves. Very shrill metallic, ear-raping highs. Only track that seems out of place on an otherwise stellar soundtrack.

I must be on the the very few persons to love that stage: the earthquakes, the landscape, the little Loch Ness robots, and even the music. I believe Death Egg it's a much worse theme. Hill Top Zone sounds nice on real hardware, but it can be ear-piercing with bad or mediocre emulators.

This is dependent on the level design and is why people generally don't like CD (the only real awful stage in that game is Wacky Workshop); you can't just spindash to win. Or at least you can't without getting anticlimactically hit by something, which is how it should be. You still can go moderately fast and react fast enough by using Sonic's speed w/o spindash/peelout but if you want to go at spindash levels of speed then you need prior knowledge. It's filled with springs that are placed for use coming from other routes or to use as access points to other routes, however they also serve as momentum stoppers. Also, CD's time travel objectives requires you to slow your pace and explore more (which obviously forces you to do those two things you mentioned more) and the mechanic to access those worlds forces you to route out your paths and think about how you use this ridiculous instant speed as to retain it correctly, although it can be annoying on certain levels and I think it's arguable whether or not you should lose the ability to time-travel after slowing down more than halfway through as it doesn't really make the game more difficult just longer.

What's that zone right before oil ocean? Had great music. Boss was the easiest in the game though. You could hit him 6 times before he drilled back into the ceiling.

Do people actually believe sonic 1 is the best out of the genesis sonics? There can’t honestly be people that enjoy Marble and Labyrinth zone and the rest of the levels are just decent. Honestly the game is incomplete without the spin dash added in 2

The Spindash to me slows things down. With enough speed, you don't need it, simply holding down while moving gives you that same effect and I do hate that later games require you to do the spindash though if you're good enough you still don't need it.

Playing the Taxman re-releases on iOS made me love Sonic 1 because of the time attack mode. There's the requirement to beat the game in under 45 minutes and you can revisit individual zones and acts to shave seconds or minutes off the total, and I ended up appreciating Marble and Labyrinth's design after perfecting my routes through them.

The Spin Dash is a crutch.

Sonic 1 is a game that's quick to play through when bored and leaves me feeling like I had my fill afterwards. 2 and 3&K just drags on too long.

>There can’t honestly be people that enjoy Marble and Labyrinth zone
What's even wrong with these zones? The whole hateboner for Marble is history revisionism at its finest, nobody ever complained about it back then, having to push 1 (one) block is nothing compared to some of the later shit on subsequent games, so don't come at me with that shit.
Labyrinth was always infamous for being so punishing, but what are you, some casual? Just be patient, don't panic, and get through the level. It feels good to do it without ever getting hit, also Starlight, just "decent"? That zone is one of the best Sonic zones, always a highlight of Sonic levels in general.
Spring Yard is just about the best Sonic zone ever if you think about it.
That leaves GHZ (absolute classic masterpiece that has been copied to death but never surpassed) and Scrap Brain (original Robotnik mecha level with tricks everywhere, classic Sonic also was copied hundreds of times but neither Metropolis nor Death Egg on S&K are better than Scrap Brain, even having into account the water section on Act 3.
Sonic 1 is really the best Sonic when you REALLY compare it to the others.
Saying it feels incomplete because you can't maintain your momentum and depend on Spindash is not really convincing.

If Sonic 1 isn't action-packed enough for you, then you're playing it wrong.
>b-but bad level design
For every flaw you can name on Sonic 1 levels, I can name at least 3 on Sonic 2 or 3 levels.
Sonic 1 is still the most curated Sonic experience and no amounts of "but spindash makes it more action-packed!" sloppery slopes can change that. Also if you really want spindash so much just play it on Sonic Jam.
