Who got stuck here?
Replaying now, I think as far as I know, that this is the only place where you can somewhat get stuck unlike multiple spots in the first game. Some people will not know what the heck to do, but I think this is one of those things some people will just figure out right away.
Anyway, not seeing many of the complaints about this game. Random encounter rate is not high, battles are mostly easy, recovery items super cheap, spells cost barely any TP, you can escape any dungeon at any time, you don't need to grind, just use the money from the last dungeon to buy the new gear.
Game was obviously rushed, no bosses, music is very cheap and bad, character portraits are mostly cheap and reused, towns all almost identical, almost no story most of the game, etc... Shame about that but still a decent game.

>> No.5974191

How do you get stuck in a first person dungeon crawler?
The problem in PS2 is that you can't properly map it and some dungeons are heavily layered.

>> No.5974216

>>5974191
For me, most PS2 dungeons are the same shape on each floor so you figure out the shape of the first floor, then make that shape for each floor, use a rough draft after you go through a portal and copy it into the set shape once you figure out where that portal is located relatively.
Did you play the first? Besides the vague hint parts, there are some invisible walls with no clear indication of where they are in large dungeons, also one last infinite loop part where you have to figure out you are in a loop then get out of it near the end.

The fuck lol? You could say those exact same characteristics are in the original Phantasy Star.
I hate blind bandwagoning especially when the rationalizations make zero sense.

>> No.5974302

>>5974276
Bro what bandwagoning, I literally never even see anybody talk about this game, only thing I ever heard is that people say it is a grind or pain to play. These are my personal observations.
Music first is just plain bad, it's a simple formula with absolutely no hooks or instrumentation, and either the guy didn't know how to program drums or didn't have the time because it's the same fucking basic rock beat almost everytime. PS1 was better IMO.
Battles all have the same background, which I don't honestly think was a design choice. PS1 had bg's.
NPC's reuse the same faces, why the fuk does the scientist who makes the special gum also the same guy who works in every item shop?
Monsters don't have any drops at all. PS1 did.
Many stats and spells are broken, PS1 didn't have the same problem to this degree.
PS1 way more bosses, way more story.
Some character designs just suck and some NPC's look better than main characters, why.

Thanks bro, I already stole all the items that exist afaik with Shiruka. I think Greensleeves, Visaphone and Flame Staff are all the unique items? I don't use guides or maps. Also I will try to find if there are any extra secrets not known of in this game. In PS1 there are several hidden dungeons not on any maps or in any guides afaik.

the game is not rushed, IMO it's one of the most "polished" titles on genesis, everything makes visual and aural sense - even the way the save mechanic is integrated into the game world (data memory)

>> No.5976363

>>5976307
Then why do they have less monster variety than PS1, stats completely broken, many spells broken, no item drops, very scarce treasure, no optional areas like PS1, music that is the same thing repeated in different ways, only two bosses, and when a character dies there isn't even unique music, they play the same fucking battle music, no battle backgrounds, repeated NPC avatars, etc... I think the game was rushed because Sega didn't value the PS franchise enough and dropped the ball. But don't get me wrong, it has the foundations of a great game, but it still seems like they just had to finish it without enough time or money.

I'm guessing you played the game at least once and didn't just play it with just one guy, lol. I brought the wrong person, I thought I had the person with Deban but I had someone else who couldn't do shit, also I thought Dimate restored TP but when I used it, it didn't... Beat it with just the girl with the boomerang surviving since she attacked the main guy primarily and killed him right off.

pretty sure that XP gain is divided per person, and thus the Rolf-Nei team had an easy time.
but after Climatrol I went and recruited a few. That's also where I lost interest and haven't picked it up.

Japanese didn't think highly of themselves either since they dumbed down the difficulty in the sequels tremendously. PS2 is just an unusually difficult game.

>I think you are about halfway through the game after Climatrol.

In terms of actual zones, yes, but in terms of time, not really. The later dungeons are really crazy.

Anyway, this is possibly my favorite JRPG and one of my favorite RPGs in general. The dungeons are awesome, the music great, the aesthetic is great, the story is great, the twist ending is great. Only complaint about this game is that I discovered it pretty late; didn't play it until like 2008 or something.

Only real negative thing to say is that some of the art looks amateurish. Everything else is amazing.

There's only like two bosses in PS1 lol wtf?
And many of the NPCs share the same faces and crap too.
Are you like playing both these games through a blindfold?

>> No.5980767

The scenery plot could have been better. There are some drafts about it that I made when I felt that it could be a better story.

Also. No TP-restoring items at all -> you must use TP very carefully.
In the middle of the game, when you dont have healing items for every character, and when enemies are stronger than you, it becomes relatively hard.

>> No.5983083

>>5982995
On a fucking Genesis emulator, obviously. I can't imagine anyone has translated the Saturn ports, because why on earth would you. And no, you shouldn't play the crappy Playstation 2 port. It manages to have far uglier art that the already amateurish looking original, and the music remixes are an atrocity.

>> No.5983482

>How is the Playstation 2 port?
The ports on the compilation are just emulated roms, nothing you couldn't do yourself on PC. If you mean the standalone remakes, they are truly atrocious butcheries.

>> No.5983647

>>5980027
There were alot more than two... What?
Also PS1 was on MS, PS2 was on MD, and PS1 didn't use the same avatar system, so it didn't have something like the scientist who makes the gum being the same guy that works at the item shop.

>> No.5983652

>>5974172
I'm slowly playing through it. It's okay. Music can be kind of repetitive and the battle menu is pretty archaic. Backgrounds in random battles would make the game feel less rushed. It's still fun, but 3 and 4 are much better. I much prefer the Shining Force games also.
