I never even knew this version existed. Which ones are your favorite?

Only played the NES version, which I loved, so I'm sure the SMS version is just as good. That's a great color balance for SMS box art.

They lost the source code to the original so every port is wrong

How can a port be "wrong" when it's going to be highly abbreviated as per chip limitations anyway?

SMS is considered the definitive version with the most extra levels and new bosses

Why didn't they release it in North America? Weird.

Me too. Me and my mom loved the Nintendo version, but somehow I missed out on Bubble Bobble 2 too. I had to have seen it existed on Funcoland's pricing flyer. Maybe it was just even expensive back then too. I'm not sure why we never got it.

better than the arcade?

That's awesome that your mom played Bubble Bobble with you, legit envious. Bet you have some great memories. It very well could have been during that game price skyrocket that happened around 1986-87. I remember my mother refusing to buy Gradius at $35.00 because the games were 15-20 a month ago. When they then shot up to 50-60 that's when I'd never hear the end of how expensive they were.

Yeah, I have a lot of good memories of us sitting on the floor in front of our big, wooden, console TV playing games together. She really enjoyed Bubble Bobble, Mario, Contra, and a lot of puzzle games. (Wario's Woods for SNES is really underrated!)
Oh yeah, she actually enjoyed and would always offer to help me by farming coins in Zelda too lol... Ahh I miss those times and love my mom...

Technically, I believe the NES version has more extra levels, since there are twelve more levels if you pick up the crystal on round 99. SMS just has more level design changes compared to the arcade version.

In my opinion, the best version is Sharp X68000. It's pretty much arcade perfect and includes Sybubblun, a hidden extra game made by the original developer..

Y'know, it's almost like the PC-Engine (and maybe Amiga) version of Rainbow Islands is the equivalent to the NES version of Bubble Bobble with how much more popular it is than the arcade original

>> No.5972665

I like the arcade version the most I guess.
I put many a coin into it at the fish 'n' chip shop in the old days.

I think I like the NES version more. Its music is better and the colors seem more vibrant, even though the Master System should have had that cornered.
