Before I get too far into it should I play on an emulator with a big screen and speed hack or the old fashioned way on the GBC

>> No.5969117

Play how you want to play. Do you want it to feel like it used to? To be able to link cable? Or do you want to play it like a modern game and rush to git'er done?

>> No.5969147

Speedhack, original speed is too slow for a game like Pokemon, or JRPGs in general.

Go for the speed hack

don't you have some big anime titties to be modding into skyrim right now, instead of shitting up /vr/?

You seem upset. I’m not a kid anymore with endless hours to grind 6 Pokémon so they’re at even levels

Do you have an N64 and Pokemon Stadium 2? If so original hardware. Otherwise emulate.

well actually, i do have a everdrive64 with the stadium 2 rom on it, will it work with the transfer pak?

I beat it with fastforward on an emulator recently to put the finished save on my original cart. The game is around 50 hours of walking up and down pressing a, I'd personally prefer to spend that time doing other things.

>> No.5969409

>>5969107
Emulate. The battery will die and your game will be gone. I've changed two batteries in my copy of Crystal, it's the worst

Who gives a shit about what the developer thinks. If I play a game to have fun, if I can do it in a way that brings me more fun, I'll do it.

How did you transfer a save file to a gb cart? Action replay or something?

>speed hack
Since when is using the emulators "fast forward" option considered a "speed hack"? Or is this referring to an actual rom hack?

>> No.5969454

bad wording on my part, i just knew of anons on here who mentioned speeding up the game to skip all the walking and text reading

>> No.5969461

That's a pity actually. I was hoping there was a hack to speed up the gameplay without the side effect of the music being sped up too.

>>5969314
Which is why (a) you don't grind your team to be at even levels, just grind to keep everyone in the same neighborhood and (b) you don't bother with a full team of six when a set of three will get the job done every time.

Idk man, I remember fighting miltank with Whitney and only surviving on 1hp on the 6th pokemon

>> No.5969670

>>5969107
I would play it on a GBC, just because I miss the texture of that old screen.

>> No.5969780

>>5969651
miltank is kind of an exception in that it has a really high BST compared to everything else in that level and there's no way for you to outspeed it without overlevelling massively. as a kid this can become a huge roadblock because it gets stomp which is good STAB and can flinch and it gets rollout which can get absurdly strong after 3-4 turns. once you're older, you realize you can either paralyze it and chip it to death or poison it and stall and it won't give you many problems. you can really hit it hard with the machop you can trade for in the same town as well, or wear it down with a geodude, but that's a little boring.

This man is correct. Stadium 2 is the fucking bomb.
>>5969380
Older Everdrives don't work with Stadium 2, they can overwrite the ROM with the save data while playing. If you have one that works, it should be fine with the Transfer Pak. https://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=5241.0

The Transfer Pak doesn't usually work with Game Boy flash carts though, because it only provides barely enough power to read the original carts, and most flashcarts are more power-hungry than it can handle.

>>5970383
Sweet. I have an actual crystal gb cart so I’ll give it a try and see how it goes!

>> No.5970467

>>5970426
As someone who has used their everdrive 64 to transfer a Crystal Cart save to a VC install, it’s very possible. If you google around, there’s a specific Homebrew ROM out there to let you dump games and saves to the SD card.

>> No.5970604

>>5970383
Idk if it’s becuase I have a repro copy of Crystal or what but PS2 won’t load the game, just says transfer pak is not set correctly. All the other stuff works like looking at your room and going to the pokedex and items and stuff. I tried it with Red and red plays no problem. Weird

>> No.5970783 [DELETED]

>>5970604
I would expect a repro to have the same problem as a flashcart, it simply draws too much power for the anemic Transfer Pak.

By the way, here's my source on that.
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/n64/patches/4506readme.txt

>The transfer pak is underpowered--literally. On paper it only receives 3 volts, but in actuality less than that (just over 2 on average). It's evident in the software driver. Every step is wrapped in failure tests and repeats with timeout loops that happen to be just as long as it, on paper, needs to rebuild voltage. In fact, the very first access is guaranteed to fail. Consequently, the more power a cart draws the less likely it is to work for any length of time with the transfer pak. Flashcarts built from salvaged GB boards are significantly more likely to run [than other flashcarts] if only because they draw vastly less from the pak than some fpga based monstrosity, all other hardware behavior aside.

The slow speed of Pokemon from a combination of...

- Excessive text in menus
- Slow menus
- Unnecessary animations
- No instant text option
- Extensively long animations
- Long delays in the action due to a combination of the above
- Rotomdex

are major factors as to why I don't play the games anymore.
