Am I missing out of anything if I don't enjoy JRPG or wrestling games?

Missing out on pachinko and pedophile simulators.

Yes. I love the PlayStation and hate RPGs in general. You are on a 18+ board

Yeah, loads of good racing games like Wipeout 3/2097, Crash Team Racing, Rollcage, Sled Storm, Side By Side, Ridge Racer and more. Tenchu, the only fun stealth series. Some shmups like Gradius Gaiden, Raycrisis, R-Type Delta, TFV, G-Darius. Umihara Kawase Shun, Dino Crisis 2, Omega Boost, Castlevania Chronicles, Armored Core games and prob some others I'm forgetting.

They did make a Metal Gear game for the og playstation but apparently it's mostly just cutscenes.

Yes. there are some great games on the system.

Honestly though both ps1 and n64 games have aged like milk.

Huh? N64 has the best wrestling games. You’re missing out on great horror games if you don’t have a PS1 though. Adventure, too. You’re basically missing out in everything, actually.

that's more a N64 thing.
you should play ithe PS1 for obscure mecha, racing and action titles.

Woah, there is a Metal Gear game on the PSX? I never knew that? Is it considered a hidden gem nowadays?

-Silent Hill
Played it last fall for the first time so no nostalgia goggles obscuring my opinion here.
-MGS
Obvious pick but yeah plat it. Also pick up the VR missions. Usually pretty cheap.
-Resident Evil 2
Couldn't get into the first one but this one hooked me right away. Not nearly as spoopy as Silent Hill but very solid fun experience.
-Wipe out 3
Another anon mentioned this but even if your not into racing you should pick it up just for the spectacle. This game is gorgeous.

I play it about once a year

That's about all I can recommend. Although I have had my ps1 for about a decade I haven't really dove deep into it's library. It can be a mine field since some games that I loved growing up like Twisted Metal 2 or jet moto just haven't aged well .

Had a PS1 as a main system for many years, played it to death, and NEVER played a single RPG on it.

do you do different weapon loadouts each year you okay sotn? I've played through it a number of times but always find myself using the same weapons because the feel of the regular swords. I think it burned me out on playing through it. Two handed swords and maces just feel wrong to me

Most western wrestling games were shit on most 5th and 6th generations consoles. Just take a look at those horrible Acclaim or THQ/Yuke's games. Somehow western devs never understood the genre and just made simple fighting games with wrestling characters. The very few better western wrestling games mostly were total conversions of japanese titles (Natsume Championship Wrestling, Power Move Pro Wrestling or No Mercy which was a conversion of Virtual Pro Wrestling). But with Smackdown they even ruined the originally mildly complex gameplay (of Toukon Retsuden of which it was based on) in favour of a graphic updates. This even was the second time the took the Toukon Retsuden Engine and replaced all the japanese licensed content with something else. The first one was Power Move Pro Wrestling that at least left the gameplay intact and only changed the appearance of the NJPW wrestlers to partially hilarious fictionalized characters. But the genuine games by western devs were laughable. After the 6th gen when even the better japanese titles dried out, they ran the genre completely into the ground.

But indeed did the PS1 have some fantastic titles of that genre, IMO even the best wrestling game to date AJPW: King's soul. Fire Pro Wrestling G (as most Fire Pro Titles) was excellent too. Even the now notorious garbage developer Yuke's made some good wrestling games back in the day (especially Toukon Retsuden 3), too bad that they also were responsible for killing the genre.

But the Dreamcast was even worst. Not a single good wrestling game was released for the machine here, while some of the best titles of the genre were japan exclusive (Fire Pro Wrestling D, Giant Gram 2, Giant Gram 2000, Toukon Retsuden 4).
