You memed me into getting an expensive Sony TV which I had to pay out the ass for and have my friend help me carry it up a flight of stairs at the seller's house and down another at mine and now I find out it looks worse for retro games than my piece of shit TV. Thanks guys.

Was it too much of a pain to state what the left and right side of the pic are? Like model, means of connection, etc? Or do you not have either and are just LARPing right down to the 'carry up stairs' schtick in every thread?

lmao what

do you prefer oversaturated, over contrasted shit LG and Samsung pump out? OP isn't even referring to a modern TV, but Sony is among the best options for a modern television if you're willing to pay for a good model. still make the best professional broadcast monitors, thank god for the BVM-HX310 V1.1 I have in my office.

The reasons I feel memed are that on the expensive TV left Sonics shoes look less details, his pupils are rectangles instead of ovals, the colors aren't right no matter how much I adjust them, and edges of separate objects on screen aren't as defined so the entire picture looks a little more washed out.

I don't think anyone says all CRTs are universally amazing. It's horses for courses.

Take >>5945613 for example. It's a 450tvl consumer set (KX-14CP1) displaying what it was designed to display, SD.

OP's set, allegedly an HDCRT was never designed for SD and therefore it looks like shit, just like flat panel HDTVs do when fed a raw SD source.

Pic related is a CRT monitor designed to display at 1600x1200 being fed a 240x3840 image. Some people love this BVM-like thicc scanline look but I personally don't.

It's disingenuous to lump all CRTs together. Get one which suits the application you intend for it.

Late era Sony CRTs had so much digital processing and image enhancers in them that they really resemble early LCDs rather than CRTs. But they take the worst of both technologies when it comes to how they handle retro games. What an eyesore.

You'd be surprised. My main display at the moment is a Bravia from about a decade ago. Being fed component PS1 games through a PS2, even my PAL copies look surprisingly great on it with no external scalers needed. Doesn't do so crash hot on a full 576i game like you'd get out of a PS2 by default but using a modded system to feed it NTSC roms instead? 480i/p looks pretty great on it too. I think I like it more than PS1/2 support over HDMI on PS3, which was my previous solution.

I'm getting sidetracked, my point is that there's HD TVs out there that do a commendable job with SD inputs.

>> No.5947208

>>5946987
It'll still see 240p as interlaced though.
Find a 60hz flicker and you'll note that it is instead two interlaced fields.
I have a really nice Panasonic 52" plasma from around 2008 that does a great job on s-video/component input except that it does this. 99% of the time it isn't noticeable.

Yeah, that's the one drawback. But if you're not noticing it without actively finding a way to show it off? It's not a massive issue. The setup's not the absolute best picture you can get but it also doesn't need to be, just good enough that it doesn't trigger my picture autism.

I notice it when playing phantasy star 4 whenever I do any space travel.
Also whenever I take damage in Castlevania on NES or any number of other NES games.
Or when a battle starts in final fantasy 3 on NES.
