There's also the fact that I can't get the fist altfire to charge up properly- you can't direct the refire to go to another parameter. I've been able to do the workaround for the chaingun at the cost of no windup time, but the altfire for the fists is entirely gone...

Not him, I like the imp change (even though it makes melee a pain in the ass), but is it just me, or is the Slug (alt fire, shotgun) totally gutless?

The rest seem anywhere from silly to fun to OP, but none stupidly so, so it's pretty cool. Just the shotgun slug seems... I don't get it. 3 shell cost for way less damage to 1 target than a normal shotgun round would do?

I think a better solution would be something like alt fire chambers a slug, costs +1 shell, and your next shot hits like 115% of 1 center mass shotgun blast, but penetrates physically, and bypasses armor (or 100% bypasses armor, additional 15% to armor, or whatever. I don't know how damage scripting in DECORATE works).

Speaking of - considering a conversation I was having with you and a few others pretty much spawned ProjectILE, I feel somewhat involved... Are you really new to DECORATE? How did you learn how to mod shit that fast? Point me to some websites, 'cuz it's been impressive.

Also, while it's absurdly high in ammo cost (by design, I presume), the chaingun alt fire is... oh my... haha... oooooh my

Well, the shotgun slug has a damagetype that blasts straight through all armored varieties of zombies and when I get to bosses, modifying them I do agree that I should lower the shellcost to 1 and increase the accuracy a bit. That way, it's roughly equal to the standard attack. butI could also give it the Ripper tag so that it tears through monsters, but that seems a bit too much.

And yeah, ProjectILE is my first mod at all, and I used the zdoom wiki exclusively to figure it out. That's a big reason why I made the mod, so I could learn.

The chaingun is interesting because it actually costs only one ammo for two shots, and the chaingun alt fire costs three ammo for four shots. (it also fires twice as quickly because why the fuck not). I counted, and I was able to kill the cyberdemon in less than five seconds. (and exhaust every bullet in ten, even with the increased ammo storage backpack)

Penetration attacks aren't normally that useful except in very specific situations. Is there a way to give it a %chance to penetrate that decays through each individual target? Like 100% to pass through 1 target, then 60%, then 20% for each subsequent?

It's just ridiculously fun for me. The weapons are all pretty well implemented, modes like last man standing go well with it, and all the stages are lovingly designed.

My friend's server had ~16 people the other night for last man standing, it was pretty intense. Then there's instagib, where everyone is colored like Metal Man and get metal blades that move faster and one hit kills.

It's all quite fun!

Also, no, haven't played that yet. I need to, maybe when I finish streaming MM8 8-bit demake. And then the FF7 demake.

And finally, another ZDoom update, the shotgun's slug is almost as accurate as the pistol, and does more damage than it used to. Oh, and it knocks back 'smallish' creatures like, say... hellknights and barons of hell?

Of course, at close range, the pellets are probably way better, but at medium or long ranges, the slug's stopping power holds out.

Here's a little something I've been working on a bit recently. It adds a bunch of magic scrolls that do interesting things to Hexen, randomly replacing crystal vials. Each class has 3 spells, try em all out! My favorite are the dark spells.

No, you can do whatever you want with levels or episodes. And the "episodes" aren't really a distinction in the game engine anyway, they're just usually (but not always) separated by player resets, like death.

I'm partial to the idea of an actual megawad, or actual hub, and willing to put the effort in (balancing, linking levels together) to make it such, but could live with either. It will really depend upon what everyone ends up mapping.

The /pol/ map for instance is meant for a pistol start now, but that's just because it's a standalone level and it makes no sense to assume the player would have anything else. It could easily be changed to assume the player starts with more. It should probably be an episode end (since it kills the player on exit, and if it didn't it would be giving them the bfg to take to the next level) but I definitely agree that it shouldn't be the end of the wad as a whole.

As one of the mappers so far working on the project, I appreciate your concern but I wouldn't consider aiming for a certain level difficulty as "jumping through bullshit hoops." It's actually pretty fun and I was looking forward to mapping with a variety of difficulty levels.

Also, I see no reason that a hub, even a hub that just links to a bunch of standalone wads, couldn't have progression and increasing difficulty. You could have a starter level that, once beaten, opens other levels and then once all other levels are beaten, unlocks the "end" level.

For instance, if the hub consisted of the maps in episode 2 of doom, beating e2m1 would unlock maps e2m2 through e2m7, which when all completed would unlock e2m8 which would be the end level. In most cases, you don't have players getting the bfg before the end of an episode, and most the maps I've seen made here on /vr/ (and just other maps in general) don't give the player the bfg. I don't think getting the bfg too early is going to be a problem.

As for the late progression maps in general, most late progression maps are going to have scores of enemies anyway, and the difficulty at that point comes from how you approach a fight rather than how well you conserve ammo.

For my own late progression map, I would love to be able to add more enemies in, especially in the first room. I actually toned it down quite a bit because I would have to dump an ammo stockpile on the player otherwise, and thought that would just be silly.

Overall, my point is just that you're rejecting all but one possible configuration for the maps when we haven't even got enough maps to make an episode yet. As we get more maps, we'll have a better idea of how they well they'll fit together (or not) and what order makes the most sense. Until then your approach is just limiting us for no reason.

Hey Doom gents, since it's been a week since I uploaded the first version, and also because for a while I'm gonna be dedicating myself in earnest to completing the sprite set for this monster 'ere, I've uploaded a new version of Siege Hell, the castle map in the /vr/ wads list. It's about 15-20% done now. In addition to a new section, I've updated the earlier parts based on some feedback I got in previous threads, so it should feel less unfair with slightly more health and altered monster placement.

Man, doing sprite work gives you a lot of time to sit and ponder, particularly on what you want your little monstrosity to do. Probably why so many custom monsters are overpowered or boss monsters; you spend this much time on the thing, you want it to be something the player remembers.

So I've been thinking myself. Thought of a good way to make a logical connection between the shield and the launcher - it's a 40mm grenade launcher. Now the shield makes sense - he can use it to deflect damage when he's too far to use his primary weapon, as well as deliver an alternate, weaker attack; and with some decorate trickery, he should also be able to block splash damage his own grenades that bounce back toward him. Would be a cool touch, if everything goes according to plan - and now I'm just shooting myself in the foot with this jinx... eh.

1. The Flamethrower and Rocket Launcher were not present in the original MS_DOS releases of Wolf3d and Spear of Destiny. They showed up in many ports however, such as the Mac and Jaguar.

2. The Spear is a weapon made for Samsara, and is not usable in the original games. At all.

3. Spear of Destiny is a prequel to Wolf3d, and the only game changing aspect it really added was a bigger ammo pack. That isn't counting the new bosses.

Honestly, this.
A lot of mods try to attain a sort of character balance but fuck up in a lot of ways (see: GvH UUUGGGHHH)
Samsara is the first mod I've played where all of the characters feel actually balanced. All of them have distinct strengths and weaknesses, even if their strength isn't your playstyle of choice.

Sure, there's probably a tier list if someone really nerded and went into slade to make an excel of everyone's dps values, but i think the differences would be super-miniscule

What are best source ports (if any) for Blood, Duke Nukem 3D, and Wolfenstein? I never did like the clunky DOS install on Windows 7 + DOSBox, and would like to make a change for the better!
If there are sourceports, can it open these sourceports via ZDL? Is ZDL universal?
