>> No.5934446

It takes a massive fucking shit on everything Chrono Trigger did. If I was the original writer for CT, I'd sue the fuck out of Square for ruining my story with RD and Chr*no Cr*ss. They killed off all the original characters, they added too many fucking people to play as, the way they talked was asinine accent algorithm bullshit and the whole thing just goes along and along wiith nno fucking rhyme or reason and Schala's hair is fucking blonde like wtf were they thinkihg. The game made no sense and the battle system was stupid. The battle music is bad annd serge is a pussy. Fuck RD and CC and fuck you for bringing it up.
Chrono Trigger forever, you contrarian faggot reddit autistic fuck.

>> No.5934505

Music was good enough to be used in CC. Story is poignant and unexpected.

7/10 would read again. Plot summary is as follows:

>Serge, kid, and magus invade viper Manor to steal frozen flame, which grants any wish
>Magus had saved kid's life and kind of followed her since then for some reason
>Kid is also seeking revenge against lynx, the owner of the manor. Lynx killed her caretaker Lucca
>They find the flame in the ruins of the Ocean Palace
>Lynx defends the flame
>Frozen flame is actually a part of Lacks
>Their battle triggers time distortion
>Kid realizes she is the rebirth of Schala
>Magus is revealed to be Magus here
>Suddenly the Porre army come in and take over the manor
>They fail their mission to get the flame, but Kid is happy she learned what she really is

Poignant, heartfelt, subverted

>> No.5934590

>>5931985
I love how strange and unexpected the story is. Ideas that would be fleshed out further in CC are introduced here, such as Kid being raised by Lucca and being Schala who lost her memories; but, these concepts are so briefly sketched out, requiring the player to view several endings before they get the semi-full story, that it lends the game a mysterious quality that I quickly fell in love with. In some ways I unironically like it more than Chrono Cross.

>> No.5934607

>>5934590
Also, the sheer amount of bizarre and goofy endings makes it a pleasure to replay. I love a visual novel that goes in radically different directions often times giving the characters different backstories even, making each path its own alternative universe. There was one ending I vaguely remember where Kid transformed into something, and someone said something about her turning into a dragon, and so my headcanon became that that version of Kid lost her memories, crossed dimensions, and became Harle.

>I love how strange and unexpected the story is.
The writer said in an interview that he was originally tasked with writing some random scenario for a random VN and in the middle of doing it he realized that he kept envisioning Schala (this was right after finishing CT). Since it was a Square project with CT alumni and it was a minor game on a streamable obscure service he just said fuck it and turned it into a CT sequel without notice, so that Square wouldn't demand anything from it or milk it in advertising. Unheard of in vidya, but very cool IMO.

>> No.5938973

>>5938721
Kato has said that he envisioned and still envisions a sequel called Chrono Reflect in which main CT and CC characters team up to fight an ultimate foe in Zurvan (whatever that means). In the interview where he said that, he also stated that he was never attached to the Break project and knows nothing about it. Probably a good thing it never happened since it apparently didn't involve any of the original CT/CC team.

Brainlet that you are, you are failing to see the overarching message of Cross. While Trigger sacrificed the individual for the greater good, Cross highlights the worth of the individual, for a chain is broken with a single broken link. Serge is isolated in his quest, and those that join him add to the atmosphere of isolation by pursuing their own goals first and foremost. Furthermore, the volume of exposition is moot when the development is lacking, such as pretty much in every Trigger character sans Lucca, and that only thanks to her role in Cross. Meanwhile each Cross character has a hero's journey to look back on, masterfully executed with just a few scenes.

Demi completely rewrote portions of the script, even affecting the gameplay for no good reason in a number of instances. There's a reason why almost all of old translations have gotten retranslated in recent years, and that's because he routinely took great liberties with the script.
