It's like the Turtles in Time of Nintendo. The window dressing of deep gameplay and professionalism but woefully shallow in fact.

>deep gameplay
I think this is what you zoomers get confused with when you try to wrap your head around Ocarina of Time being a great game. You're confusing being a great game with being the most technically complex light and sound prompted finger jab button puzzle.
You or someone like you asked in the last thread about why others haven't copied OoT, and this is why. It's all the ways the game is good that isn't a function of finger jab button puzzling. You can copy technical shit and reproduce what seems like the same formula for gameplay. But you'll be missing the most important part which is the whole cinematic experience and engaging charm that makes you actually want to play.

Z-Targeting was important too, sure. Also redeads, day / night cycle, biggoron sword, Forest Temple being all mysterious with ghosts and the twisted hallway and that sick soundtrack, and the great synergy between puzzle solving and action so that you got a neat happy medium between either extreme which made full use of the new 3D environment in a way that wouldn't really work the same in prior 2D settings.
If not any of that though, come out and say what you mean, passive-aggressive pussy footing faggot.

If you don't appreciate the atmosphere of Forest Temple you have no taste at all. And I don't mean that as some hyperbole insult. It's more like this is the equivalent to you being deaf or blind, but for abstract aesthetic perception instead of direct sensory input. I expect they might have medicine for you fifty years into the future after neuroscience is fleshed out more, which is convenient because OoT will still be great at that time.

You're objectively as contrarian as is possible for video games by not liking OoT. It's not like all the praise is some nostalgia thing that came up after the fact. Go look up the reviews and ratings from the time. Multiple publications gave OoT perfect scores when they had never given out a perfect score to any game beforehand and had to break internal policies to do so for this game. Everyone freaked out over it. You can claim everyone was wrong, but you can't claim you're not being contrarian.

You don't rank OoT songs. They each served their respective functions well.
Goron music gave you that vaguely Mario Bros. underground theme sounding quality with the rhythmic barking goofiness that characterized that race.
Forest Temple had that spooky haunted mansion overran by flora feeling to it.
Hyrule Market you got that upbeat medieval festival vibe.

I LOVE OoT and think it’s easily among the top 5 Zeldas games. But let me play devil’s advocate for the OP for a moment since he’s not presenting any real arguments against OoT.

The quality of craftsmanship behind Ocarina of Time is something that can’t be denied. But I’ve encountered older Zelda fans who, to put it nicely, think the atmosphere of something like the Forest Temple could have been put to better use in a different game. These are fans who felt disenfranchised after Eiji Aonuma took over the series and the 3D entries became puzzle focused than the 2D entries ever were; this change could be argued to have begun with Ocarina of Time, where Aonuma was given the task of designing dungeons. Now the obvious counter to this complaint is that LttP and LA’s dungeons also featured many puzzles. The key difference is, I think in the number of enemies and obstacles as contrasted with the amount of time required to solve each puzzle. LA was the start of a trend of puzzles that required you to slow and down and circumnavigate several floors in order to solve puzzles and progress to the final boss, but the move to 3D took this to a new level.

Whereas fans who grew up with the NES and SNES Zeldas saw them as primarily action and adventure focused, with intense, enemy swarmed dungeons, and an additional focus on item upgrading, spell-learning, and discovery, all within the trappings of a high fantasy world, the very first dungeon of OoT has you searching for torches and then running around trying to light them all before they extinguish. And from there the amount of time spent stopping to observe your surroundings rather than fight off enemies only increases with each dungeon and subsequent Zelda game. Skyward Sword, with its lack of an overworld, was considered the ultimate low point of Aonuma Zelda. Breath of the Wild seems to have returned the series to its more action and exploration based roots, but some fans who grew up on Puzzelda hate it for that.
