Even using unlimited saved states, most people cant beat later levels of solomons key without watching solution videos on youtube.

BASED

Lolo 3 was the best god damn puzzle game I have every played.
Too bad it got extremely repetetive after a while. They needed more mechanics.

Oxyd and its sequel Per Oxyd are both great games. There is a great open source port that can be found here

Lode Runner

Yeah and Lolo was great. All Lolo I guess, I mean I don't know how it could be done badly.

I also really liked any non-timed puzzle modes in the games that WERE Tetris variants. Yoshi's Cookie had a good one, for instance.

I don't know whether Chromatron is "retro": https://silverspaceship.com/chromatron/

If not, it might as well be. Anyway it's challenging and good. Pretend it's retro if it isn't and play it.

>> No.5930380

I mean everybody has some level of fondness for Lemmings right? Also King Arthur's World on SNES was similar and kinda good-ish.

Hmm I guess Bridge Builder isn't old enough to count... okay well surely there are other physics-based puzzle games that are. Like The Incredible Machine or whatever, I dunno. I got into that genre with Bridge Builder myself. It's a fun genre.

Yes, retro. The board rule is 1999 or earlier, however the rule is also that the Sega Dreamcast is considered retro, and therefore all games that were originally released for it during its lifetime (so not including homebrew titles made more recently) count as retro. I doubt Sonic Adventure 2 would have a problem on this board because it's a Dreamcast exclusive, and we talk about retro games ported to newer non-retro hardware all the time, so you're simply looking for a problem with a valid contribution.

And it is a puzzle game, it blends puzzle genre elements with the shmup genre.

You actually can discuss new homebrew games on /vr/ if they're running on pre-y2k systems (except the PC).

I agree. First example that springs to mind is the level based puzzle mode for Pac Attack. Really fun game, deserves more attention. Stuff like falling blocks and match 3 (puzzle bobble etc) are almost a different genre than problem solving logic games. I much prefer the latter. Tetris and Puyo are all about accurate inputs and quick pattern recognition/processing.
