Did Spyro 3 have development problems? The drop in quality once you get to Midnight Mountain is very jarring. Pretty much all the levels including the final boss are utter shit. The Sparx levels also feel like they had very little thought or effort put into them. Did they run out of time or money? Did developers quit?

>> No.5926871

Pretty sure they rushed it to meet a christmas deadline.

Super Bonus Round is even worse, Sorceress is just alive again with no cutscene or fanfare, you have a lame UFO battle with her and she dies unceremoniously

what did you think was shit about the final levels though? I thought Dino Mines and Haunted Tomb were pretty cool
the only downside for me was that in the PAL version they reused tracks from earlier levels instead of having their own

did they iron this out in the remakes?

not in the slightest
they also redesigned a numbero f characters and enemies with their 'vision' that shits over the creativity and quirkiness of Insomniac's designs

I will FOREVER be mad about the redesigned enemies in dino mines

autistic rant incoming

so in Dino Mines the enemies are gunslinging dinosaurs. in the pic you an see the most common enemy type, the original and the remke versons. original is obviously a t-rex, remake is some other dino. doesn't seem so bad on the surface.

but the key part of the design is their attack animation. in the original when a dino spots you, he has to flick his guns up into the air and catch them, because being a t-rex his arms are too short and stubby to actually draw his weapons. it's such a charming, humourous little detail and the fact that the remake completely ruined it shows the lack of care they applied to redesigning these games.

in the remake, the dino's arms are long enough to draw from their holsters, but they flick their guns up in the air anyway. on top of that, the animation looks so still and awkward compared to the original, where the dino's torso + hips swayed to accommodate the motion

compare the original animation (10 seconds in) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4N_gYW4srI

to the remake (35 seconds in) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL5sSSNrO08

there are a ton of other details I could mention, but this for me is all you need to see to know that no attempt was mad to capture the soul of the original games

Which is the level with the giant scorpions? I used to always enjoy it. It's been 20 years since I last played Spyro 3.

Desert Ruins, another level from the final world
that also had a Lara Croft expy

That's the one. It probably has shitty level design, but it was good fun. It's nice being unaware of all that stuff as a kid. "I'm a monkey with a gun" can sell you on a level even if it's trash. From what I remember Spyro 3 was loaded with gimmicks, same as Crash 3.

What are some other details the remake botched?

>> No.5927069 [DELETED]

>>5927029
dozens. you can see it in the video in that post, but when travelling through a level portal, it's a generic loading screen. in the original, all gems you had collected in the world/level you just came from trickled down into a treasure chest at the bottom, which added them to your total. and spyro's flight during the loading would transition seamlessly into him gliding down into the level. there's no excuse for not managing that in the remake

I do think the remake was also rushed to meet a deadline, but that still doesn't excuse it being inferior to the originals

I was watching the renake footage you posted. It all seems so dark and foggy in comparison to the original material. Spyro's new swimming animation looks very limp, too.

for some reason they are really proud of their "dynamic lighting" the Crash remake was plagued by that too. they were really pushing it in all promotional materials leading up to the game's release.
ruins the colour palette of certain levels and makes what should have been high contrast areas very muted.

The Spyro remake didn't get any new levels, did it?

>> No.5927264 [DELETED]

>>5927094
no, there was a locked door in the Artisans homeworld that looked primed to be a future DLC, but nothing came of it. I guess they don't think it'll be profitable

Why do you think Crash's remake garnered more attention than Spyro's? Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed like it did.

>> No.5927553 [DELETED]

>>5927519
Firstly, it made several QOL improvements to the original games - playable Coco in all 3, time trials in all 3, sensible saving in Crash 1. Yes it had flaws. Couple little details that showed real care, like actually having Crash throw the wumpa fruit in the N Gin fight, Cortex holding the Master Crystal in the Crash 2 boss, giving you a reason to chase him, or sprinkling Fake Crash in more levels for veteran players to look for. I'm not saying it doesn't have flaws - it does - but there are several aspects in which it is undoubtedly superior to the original games. Spyro by comparison is the same 3 games with new graphics.

Then, it had DLC, one of which was an infamously difficult cut level from the original Crash 1, pleasing the old fans, the other of which was a totally brand-new level with great design and challenge.

The only thing I think the Reignited Trilogy does better than N Sane is giving you the option to toggle between the remastered and original music tracks.

Also, I think Crash was/is more popular than Spyro in general.

No, Spyro 1 is the only one with actual platforming and isn't just a minigame collection. The Sly series and the Jak & Daxter series have the same problem.
