Should I play the enhanced or the original? Also Planescape thread

I believe this game's EE didn't get OCs inserted.

>> No.5923483

My own personal ranking would be

Original with Unfinished Business, Fixpack, and tweak pack mods>EE>Vanilla.

IIRC, most of what EE did was just slap in those mods into the game and call it a day anyway.

>>5923483
is that a metaphorical "put those mods in the game" or is beamdog literally using those mods in ee?

>> No.5923697

>>5923686
It's been a while, but I'm like 99% sure that all beamdog did was install the aforementioned trio of mods, added in a few more UI and graphical changes, and called it a day.

Play the original with the handful of "mandatory" mods installed, there's a modpack that includes all that stuff somewhere. Be wary that the mod that adds subtitles to every cutscene can and will break at least two cutscenes and softlock the game. One of these cutscenes is mandatory, so it's best to just not install it.

>> No.5924391

>>5923281
It's up to you.
Anyway, Beamdog had Avellone help them retouch some shit in PST's EE. Not to mention the inclusion of lots of QoL updates that I appreciate, such as zooming in and out.
If you get EE, there's one mod that you can install, which IIRC is the unfinished business mod. They didn't include it because they asked Avellone if it should be included but he said that "They were cut for a reason", so they didn't include it.

At the very least, if you get EE, there's no OC and you get High-Res support out of the box for convenience.

I liked how the original was more zoomed in. But Enhanced Edition literally lets you turn off all the enhancements, so it's fine. And there's really nothing wrong with the enhancements if you want to use them.

Have anyone played the PS4 version?
Is it improved or has more content or something? Is it good?

I'd go PC for the mods, the restoration/fix mods out there are good stuff.
If anything get the gog version and patch it up. I've been doing that for years now, never had any issue on any system.

The series is like the good Fallout games, right?
Wouldn't it be super uncomfortable to play it on a ps4???
I ask because I don't know anything about the game
I also forgot to ask, which games from the series should I play or avoid? I know that PT is a must but I didn't pay attention to the other 4 games

>> No.5925940

>>5925930
Fallout 1 and 2 are turn based isometric rpgs with a fairly open world and a variety of ways to tackle quests.
Planescape is a bit more linear than that, but most imporantly uses the "real time with pause" system for combat. Some people hate that, while I think it reminds of some strategy games.

If you see the advertisement/trailer for the Switch (which has a laughable PST clip)
https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=LxtSG-ttTbE
You will see that the player directly controls the movement of a character while the other party members follow you.
I assume that there is a dedicated button for pausing, and switching between which character you want to control.

In this case the EE is good. Any questionable stuff it offers can be turned off, i.e. sprite outlines.

>> No.5933370

I liked PS:T but you have to admit the gameplay IS super janky, albeit interesting.

The game lets you grow more powerful without combat, but there’s rarely any challenge involved with navigating a conversation. It’s not like the game asks you to reason out how an NPC is going to react. There’s no diplomacy, you just get clearly marked options if you have high Wis for example.

Wis in particular is basically the only stat you need, it always produces the ideal reward. You can sometimes fudge a similar outcome with the other mental stats but it’s never optimal.

So obviously you want to do anything but martial builds, but what’s maddening is that there’s semblances of fun ideas in there like the tattoos and underutilized spells. So you can indulge in these at the cost of making the game banal. And yet by far the most broken thing you can do is mass Con which makes you virtually invincible because you regenerate faster and faster with each point.

I guess I mainly just wish each build/stat could unlock memories and dialogue instead of having it be almost all Wis.

IIRC the reason they were cut was primarily budget concerns and probably time constraints too.
Beamdog just accepted that since they were not included in the game, then they won't too because those cut content are not considered canon.
