Nothing, if the set is fairly low lag there's no issue at all. I play Famicom via RF on a 17" Samsung HDTV, it supports 240p natively and it about as low lag as using a retrotink2x or other line doubler. Not a bad deal for what was a throwaway TV. If it's good enough for Arino, it's good enough for me.

LCDs are fine as long as they're the correct resolution for whatever you're playing on it. or, y'know, a nice even integer multiple of the right resolution. Playing a game that's hard locked to 800*600 on a 1600*1200 panel is just peachy; playing it on a 1920*1080 is less cool. Key thing about CRTs though is that a nice multisync tube monitor is ALWAYS the correct resolution, no matter what.

I've spent way more time calibrating HDTVs than CRTs, i.e. turning off enhanced contrast shit, switching color range output (limited, full, etc), choosing between gamma curves, etc--and that'son top of doing basic shit like adjusting sharpness, color, brightness, etc. With a CRT I just adjust color, brightness, contrast, and sharpness at most, and it's fine.

Anyway, good CRTs are much better at this than LCDs (which ironically is actually really good for modern 3D games with lots of fullscreen camera movement and moving graphical effects. if you're playing mario or some shit made up pixel art, that actually looks excellent on LCD).

I just picked up a working crt for free. How would i go about connecting my modded playstation classic to it. Would i need a specific hdmi to rca cord or box or something? I use CRTs (pvm and pccrt), OLED and a ultrawide monitor. I can find reason to use each and every one of them. However I rarely meat anyone that uses or understands why I have the CRTs.

This is the same discussion as "I play boardgames" and someone says "oh monopoly?" and you have to explain to them "No, not monopoly". You go through a quick 1-2 sentence repetitive monologue about why CRT is good for some stuff while completely useless and surpassed for others.

I just went out and bought a generic hdmi to analog cord and it works. Its pretty fun playing the modded classic on the crt tv. I think it feels more genuine compared to the modern moniters.
