Been a while since we've had an 8-bit console war. Seems like /vr/ only likes to argue about 5th and 4th gen these days.

Which one do you prefer?

>> No.5915761

There aren't 8-bit wars since the NES is obviously better, not because the console itself is better (the SMS outperforms it in most regards) but simply because the NES library has far more great games.

That said, the SMS is still really cool and deserves more praise than it currently gets

>> No.5915764

Master System is the better system, but NES has the better games. That's it really. Both are worth exploring and enjoying.

>> No.5915771

8-bit chads don't engage in /v/-tier shit like console wars.

This would be a war between a hammer and a nail. But I will say, I didn't even know the MS was a thing until like five years ago and I am curious about it.
I've watched the Game Sack episode on the MS, and if anyone has more videos on the subject, I'd be interested in those too.
The box art for the games was pretty cool and minimalist so I've seen.

NES because:
-Ninja Gaiden
-Castlevania
-Mario 3
-Mario 1
-Gradius

that’s all I need from that gen to be happy, but when it comes to gen 4, I prefer Genesis over SNES but really like both

>> No.5915845

>>5915761
Unironically this. I'm no Soiboy or nintoddler but the NES library is so much better. SMS has some really fun games so it's not to be discounted, but NES won this console war without question.

I'd suggest you hang out on /v/. SMS is for people who were there, not bandwagoners. I suggest emulation or if you must have real hardware, get a flash cart. Your type shouldn't destroy the retro gaming market when they weren't born when the system was current.

But desu, it's literally the case NES has more quality and quantity. NES won. SMS is good but Sega did not win the 8 bit wars, except maybe in some third world shithole like Brasil.

It's ok, I actually enjoy people overpaying for games. As a boomer I own flashcarts as I'd rather invest in things like rental properties or the stock market. No need wasting money on decaying plastic when a flashcart is literally the same game.

Yeah, it's pretty subjective. I love both, SMS has some great stuff. It's always fun to explore games from a system you didn't have as a kid. I feel this way with SMS and PC Engine. Tons of retro gold on both systems.

Gimmick is possibly better than SMS Sonic? Understatement of the century. I grew up with SMS Sonic as one of my few games when I was a kid, but even with that nostalgia boost it's obviously no where near as good as the great NES platformers

In motion SMB3 is shit, too much flicker and slowdowns. Backgrounds are pretty lifeless and dull, too.

A fanboy of what? of good visual and aural art? I own a model 1 MD, a CDX and a model 2 Genesis. I have a black NA Saturn and a grey JP Saturn. I have a Dreamcast. I even have a Nomad. if you're implying that i'm a Nintendo fanboy, no, sorry

The SMS sucks, and almost every game for it looks and sounds like shit. The palette was clearly chosen by a blind retard and the soundchip, to put it gently, is lacking. The NES trounces it in almost every possible way. And no successive generation has ever been nearly as lopsided

Oh fuck right off with a huge black dick right up your ass. I'm probably older than you are, douche rooster.
The Master System was completely unheard of in a large chunk of the US, especially in the Northeast. I'd never heard of it at fucking all in grade school. No one owned it, no one cared about it, no one spoke of it. Only after YouTube became a thing did I even seen what it looked like in action.

Anyway, fuck you. I hope all your consoles get stolen in a violent home invasion. Then they rape you on the way out the door. And your five cats too, faggot.

I had an MS II growing up and even then I thought this packaging was inexplicably terrible, it gave the system a poorfag supermarket own brand feel, like they were deliberately making the games look as unappealing as possible as some kind of weird artistic statement.

>> No.5916049

Agreed. It's really a shame the SMS didn't do better, but you can blame Nintendo's scummy anti-competitive tactics for that one. People need to keep in mind that even for its time, the NES was underpowered and outdated as fuck. It launched in 1986 but the famicom was already 3 years old by then. SMS was objectively superior in terms of hardware and processing power.
