No, its fully working. I can still boot it into the OS, play PS1 and PS2 games. I've installed the PSX version of FMCB so it will still play games if the HDD eventually dies.
Finding a fully working one is very difficult today, though I'm not so sure of the actual main problems with the model. While many sources mention the overheating, it doesn't seem that big of a problem. My guess is that there's many tiny problems that people never found out about due to lack of official troubleshooting support from Sony, and the worst offender is the fact that the HDD has still never been cracked, so you can't replace it when it dies.

Obviously I don't use it as my main PS2 machine, but I do play on it. Finished MGS2 last week. I also have a Net Yaroze, but you can barely see it in the pic.

About to move out so the area is covered in boxes but I figured I would post my setup, pic from a few weeks ago.

I used to have a cool game-cave in my old house but I moved to a small apartment and set up an enclave in the main room.
TV stand was hard to come by as anons have notes ITT. It's cheap and the shelves are particle board but I feel it was assembled at the factory because the construction is sturdy (no dowels or locks). Importantly it was the right weight rating to hold my PVM without fears of 9/11ing. It happens to be a little bit too skinny depthwise but isn't an issue. Anyway, it just took me stalking thrift stores until something I liked appeared.
