This dungeon is bullshit and I would not have beaten it without looking up a guide or endlessly running around for weeks. I just beat it, and now do not want to continue the game.

Actually I'm 30 years young, I always avoided these kind of games as a kid because of this reason, but since I beat Link To The Past and found I didn't need a guide, I would continue

This game forced me to cheat, and what the fuck is the fun in a game you have to be told how to play

I had to look up a guide as well when I played the GB version emulated.

However, I just beat the Links Awakening remake on Switch. The dungeons are identical but the map is actually a fully detailed map and you can put markers on it to keep track of things and the iron balls location is shown on the map.

I found this dungeon difficult and confusing, but I beat it in not too long.

Without a fully detailed map and the location of the iron ball I think this dungeon is just too hard. There's like 9 sets of stairs, 3 floors, floor pieces that raise up that prevent you from getting places, it's a nightmare to keep track of in your head.

The remake takes a lot of the tedium out of all this.

There were so many instances of annoyance. The wall bombing was one where "oh I guess you can bomb things even if a stone block is in the way, you just can despite all logic!"

Really it's all shit like that, it's all "well now you have to do a bunch of shit you've never done before in the game this late in the game when typically by this point in a game you figure the game has armed you with all the information possible and it's now all up to you to use that information to win against a highter level of difficulty"

But no, its "run around for hours and have to do shit we never told you you could do before, at best you'll figure it out at random! good luck!"

it makes sense, it's not satisfying to search for that one npc to trigger the next event, or that one hidden switch to open a door 3 rooms above you.

it's more satisfying to just use a guide, keeps the flow of the games better.

zelda's a guide to show you how dumb you are, and it'll help you flow into your inevitable suicide better.

>> No.5912424

>>5912401
zelda games are made for little kids, their puzzles aren't interesting or satisfying to solve, if they had decent challenges that were satisfying then I could see your argument.

But a guide reduces a dungeon from lasting 20 boring minutes, to just 8 normal minutes. A guide shows you who to talk to next, instead of running around town talking to every individual NPC before the next event triggers.

Lots of rpgs just have padding for content, cryptic clues, because they have to extend the playtime to make them seem worth the money.

>> No.5912426

I used to watch Let's Play when starting up a new rpg. Got through the boring parts right quick and experienced the story just as much. Then I realized I was watching more Lets Play than playing, so I just stopped playing rpgs altogether. Very happy with my decision because the genre is not very good if you think about it.

What the fuck are you talking about? The wall you bomb doesn't have a stone block in the way and you can clearly see the cracks in it. The game also tells you several times to tap your sword on suspicious walls to check if they can be bombed.

>But no, its "run around for hours and have to do shit we never told you you could do before, at best you'll figure it out at random! good luck!"
Again, what the fuck are you talking about? I beat this whole game without a guide and never had a problem. Sure I got stuck for a minute here and there trying to figure out the puzzles, but it wasn't something that just completely mystified me for hours and hours. You need to be more specific because you're just coming off as a whiny retard.

I agree, if a game ever said within it, "Buy the player's guide to get the password to proceed past this point" that would be complete shit. Link's Awakening, however, does not do this. What are some games that REQUIRE a guide to advance in them?

>> No.5912694

Nothing wrong with using a guide OP, better to look up something rather than spend 1-2 hours running around trying to fix that. I'm not a kid anymore so I don't have unlimited free time to waste, I'd rather just move on so I can play another game or something else.

33 year old boomer here. I beat all of Link's Awakening, absolutely no guides or help used, when I was literally 8 years old. In fairness I'm quite intelligent but you still probably are retarded. It was also one of my most cherished gaming memories ever and my first Zelda game. I'm heavily nostalgic for it and it's one of my all time favourites. I got it by chance, too, since my parents bought me a Gameboy while we were visiting Europe (I was a hyperactive bastard and this was the only thing that would make me sit still). LA just happened to come bundled with the Gameboy along with Tetris. What a deal eh?

In the beginning I didn't even know what to do; I was just walking around the beach killing random shit with the sword for ages. Eventually I realised there was a quest and narrative to follow and so the game continued. Lovely experience. I've probably replayed it three times since then, maybe it's time for another run.

The remake looks very soulless and awful btw. That 3D "art style" is pure AIDS.

I'm going to go ahead and continue with my blog.

The only other game that gave me the same feel LA did was Zelda OoT when I was about 12. That was magical, it felt like playing a fairy tale, in class I used to day dream about going home and playing OoT I couldn't wait to get back to it. When I beat both LA and OoT for the first time, both times I was left feeling with tremendous melancholy. It's very rare that video games ever gave me a feel like that. Btw OoT was again played without a guide/help and no problems were had.

Only other two Zelda games I've tried are Majora's Mask and A Link to the Past. Somehow I didn't care for either one. I've tried to play through ALttP like three times and every time I just end up stopping out of boredom. I find it to be so inferior to LA even despite LA being an 8bit GB game. Perhaps I should have played ALttP first. Majora's Mask I also find to be very boring. I've tried to play through it twice maybe and it's just meh. Also haven't owned a Nintendo console since the N64.

I haven't bothered to try any other Zeldas because it's just the same old formula and I crave novelty. Btw I have Twilight Princess ready for Dolphin emulation but I haven't bothered with it, should I give it a go?

Wrong. To bomb the wall, you have to push the stone block forward directly in front of where the cracks are, and defy logic by planting the bomb on top of the pixel of the stone block

The wall cracks are unreachable before this

What the fuck are you talking about? Go around to the other side of the wall and place a bomb where I drew an X. You can follow the arrows I made all the way from the staircase to the bomb spot. I didn't even know you could push those blocks because I never even tried. The solution is to bomb the other side of the wall, your hints are the cracks on one side and the torch placement on the other; you can confirm the wall's bomb-ability by poking it with your sword.
