Allright, quick rundown:
OP is probably one of the kids from /vg/, some strange guys who think they're hot shit for copymonkeying stuff. Most of the time not even playing, as they spend most of their time shitposting and brainstorming what meem could they force (sometimes in collaborative efforts) for... some reason.
So they claim that because /vr/ doesn't have dedicated general threads for score-based gameplay, most of the time being elitist about emulating on MAME only and not consoles. I dunno, don't ask me, zoomer shit. They believe /vr/ are all "console babbies" who aren't familiar with arcade gaming. If only they knew how actually mainstream arcades were back then, they wouldn't be having these secret clubs LARPs as proudly as they do.
Anyway, the reason /vr/ (or 4chan in general) shouldn't have that kind of threads is because, simply put, this is not the place. Not because people on /vr/ don't play for score, but because there are countless dedicated forums and groups online, even discord servers now, where people can directly interact with each other, share and compete. Why would you want to do that on an anonymous image board? Oh yeah, because you're a zoomer, that's why.
