Original unless you have to have color. DX is at least better than the Wario Land II colorization but still not as good as what they later did with the Oracle games. It also took some steps to make the game easier which is pretty much the norm for Nintendo remakes, such as adding more hints, making a boss or two slower, and adding OP tunics. The pointless camera sidequest was kind of novel though, but who's going to use a Game Boy Printer?

Honestly I don't know whether I prefer the original or the DX port. The content added to DX is nice and it's how I originally played the game, but the visuals I think are better in the original. The tiles were changed a lot in DX to account for the colorization and it's not the best (if you want really good GBC Zelda colors, play the Oracle games, especially Seasons where most areas of the game have four different palettes that all look great), and [ending spoilers] I like the perfect ending of LA better than LADX's, where Marin is an angel instead of a seagull, though I also acknowledge the GBC's special ending is more impressive for the hardware. Neither is "wrong" to play, and you could always play the other version on a second playthrough, because the game is good enough to warrant revisiting.
>>5893997
>What do you have to do to get your picture with Marin taken?
Marin travels with you so you can get her to sing for the walrus (this happens in the original game too); in the DX version you can take her to specific spots where the Photographer (a character added to DX) will take a snapshot you can view by visiting his camera shop. You have to talk to the Photographer first for it to happen, but you'll come across his hut much earlier in the game. After Marin sings for the walrus the pictures are unavailable, though.
Spoilers for the locations you have to visit to see all the events:
>visit the cliffside at the southwest corner of the map
>jump down the wall in Koholint Village with her
>visit the weathercock
The only other limited-availability picture is gotten by visiting the Kanalet Castle gate before you open it.

I'd go with the remake if you want some new, colorful experience and the original if you want the classic, dreamlike, eerie experience. I loved the original and the remake's artstyle didn't originally appeal to me, but after looking at the DX version's weird use of color I can see what they were going for. My money is on the Switch remake with some aftermarket modifications by hackers

Not having to spend half of the game in the menu switching items around is an AMAZING QoL adjustment that once you have, you can never go back. The remake lacks in many areas though, the framedrops drag the entire experience down and the orchestrated covers really seem to miss the feel of the original tracks. I'd also like to replace Link's soulless face texture with something less soulless

Even as it is, it's hard to recommend the GB/C versions for any reason.

I like both, but the recolor job somewhat hurts the pixel art's effect. Don't get me wrong, the colored one is perfect on an original GBC screen though. Basically the original is top tier Gameboy pixel art. Most who complain about the DX version colors play on an emulator so the colors are blown out.

I just wish they hadn't wasted the extra shoulder buttons by just making them redundant functions. Why are L and ZL both dash? Why are R and ZR both shield? It's a waste of buttons, in my opinion.

My ideal control scheme for this game would be:
A - Confirm/Talk/Grab
B - Sword
ZR - Shield
ZL - Dash
X - Assignable items
Y - Assignable items
R - Assignable items
L - Assignable items
D-pad Left - Play Ballad of the Wind Fish
D-pad Down - Play Manbo's Mambo
D-pad Right - Play the frog song

Make full use of the modern controller and reduce the menu time even further.
