Is The Legend of Zelda the best retroseries design-wise? It was highly praised among Miyamoto's peers:

Chaos Seed
>Kashiwagi: For the action side, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past had just come out for the Super Famicom. It was extremely well-made, and it influenced the character animation.

Dragon Quest
>Horii: I like the responsiveness of action rpgs—they’re just fun to play. The Zelda series is a masterpiece in my opinion. Just walking around and swinging your sword—even without any purpose in mind—is simple, good fun for me.

Tactics Ogre / FF Tactics / etc
>Matsuno: I love Zelda, and have played every game in the series. I’m always impressed by how tight and flawless the games are, including the latest. In any creative work, one is faced with deadlines that ultimately result in compromise after compromise. Maybe you don’t really like how this part turned out, but at some point you’ve done all you can and you just have to put it out there. In the end, every creative work faces those challenges, I believe. That’s why I admire Zelda so much, and want to someday create at least one game with that level of polish in my life… but I’ve been unable to so far.

Super Metroid / The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls
>Fujii: Well, if we’re just talking about programming, I was confident in my abilities then. It was game design itself that I didn’t understand very well. On that note, Intelligent Systems told me to study The Legend of Zelda, which I kept beside my desk the whole time I worked.

King Colossus
>Ogino: I remember when I played The Legend of Zelda, it held a strange fascination for me. I loved it. I had never cared for games before then. Personally, I’ve always wondered why no game has come out like it since. It confirms for me that it’s good when games have a simple system like Zelda. It’s got a lot of depth.

I don't know, but Nintendo seems to work its ass off making sure it's well polished. They're very good games.

No, Mario is better.

Playing the first game without a guide is torture
The CD-i games are trash
Link to The Past has the "we hope you stumbled across special arrows" bullshit at the end.
Ocarina has those forced stealth sections.
Majora's Mask

Well there are a lot of them and none of them are bad, excluding the CDi installments. You can't say that about any other franchise.

Metal Gear. Say what you want about MGSV, but it was an extremely polished game. Best in the series gameplay wise

Nintendo games are for prepubescent babies and Zelda is no different. This board is for mature adult gamers only, take your kiddie bullshit to >>>/v/.

Lol the only one seething is you. Do you always do this? Resort to insults instead of backing up your opinion? You sound like a man child who loses his cool when he can't properly articulate himself

in terms of it inspiring other games, yes, it's the best retro series. do I like it? yeah. is it my favorite? no, definately not.

But you already did, Matsuno.

Zelda is a nice series but it's hands-down the most over-rated IP of all time.

So what? As long as you can have fun with the games you like and they can with their favorites then that seems all fine to me. I could do the same kinda trashtalk on other popular IPs like Call of Duty or Fortnite but unlike I just let it go and try to look for games that actually entertain me like Ocarina of Time or Zelda 2.
You can do that as well, anon: focus on the positive instead of letting the dark side consume you.

As much as I hate Nintendo (am very, very biased against them, as I never owned a Nintendo system), I must admit Zelda was so fucking influential, can't deny it.

it's probably the most impressive. no one else has been able to pull off something similar

This is true. The only game released on NES that had a somewhat similar style to it was Crystalis, and that's now merely considered a cult classic.

How is that a '`nonsequitur"? He's talking about some IP being 'overrated' and I replied to him that whether it's overrated or not doesn't matter.
