I tried it and it was shit. Mechwarrior 2 still holds up, though, despite how ancient the graphics are, they have that low poly/simple color thing going for them that's kinda comfy. Also the controls are actually pretty solid and you just use a keyboard and it plays great.

And here's Armored Core, which does not play great until you remap all the controls in an emulator to make it play like Verdict Day, then it's great.

Huh, no?!

SHOGO made clumsy attempts at emulating late 80s/early 90s aesthetics of Manga/Anime, but it comes over as really half-assed and inconstant. Also, nobody in the art team understood how to properly model and texture Anime-styled characters. Should've looked a bit more at Japanese games at the time.

Why won't they put I and II on GOG? It's been a #1 request for so long. I really loved these, I played these so much. The feeling of being behind enemy lines, those real time cutscenes and war crimes.. Takes me back. The air transport was my first AOL username, Walfish45. The thing I remember most was the clatter of that guy's son handcuffing himself to a bench and going 'They can't hurt us legally! Escaping is a mistake!' Then the Harkonen looking dudes come down and pop his ass.

It plays very smoothly and intuitively for a squad-based shooter released for its time, the action can be chaotic and frantic but you can still manage the various gameplay systems well. The squad AI is also actually effective unlike in the majority of squad-based shooters released after it (SWAT 3 is probably the only exception which still has unsurpassed squad AI effectiveness).
