You sure? "Assembled in Mexico". Doesnt have the Nintendo seal of quality written. Just a blur there.

>> No.5885548

It could be. I just looked at my copy and the serial number font on mine is decisively larger than that. Also, I've never seen a cart have the back label molded like that - it's always a gray sticker.

Majesco. My copy of MMX is the same. Later copies were reprinted by majesco. They were cheaper and lower quality.

Crooked sticker, bad colors, blurry, cart is weird, pins holding the cart together are strange. I hope you didn't pay good money for that.

There's only one game in my collection with a back like that, and it's Frogger - made in Mexico by Majesco.

>> No.5885601

Well this thread has opened my eyes. My copy of Earthworm Jim 2 which I bought myself at Toys R Us at the very tale end of the SNES lifespan - probably about 1998 - is one of these Majesco carts. Thankfully I take care of my shit so it's still basically pristine.
Now that unglossed label has always bothered me. Anyone know if there's some sort of adhesive film which I can apply to the label to preserve it?

>> No.5885621

the cool thing about the majesco games are that the PCBs that I've seen are identical to real nintendo. so only the rest of it is cheaped out

If you've reached the point in collecting where this will worry you, then you really should buy a special screwdriver for this.
will also help with the eventual battery replacements.

I have genesis games that are the same way, with an "assembled in mexico" sticker on the back, different security bits than usual, and pins missing. They're still legit, just made later on.

All YouTube videos for simple shit is like this, it's such a fucking pain in the ass. It's like when you click on a "how to configure (specific controller for specific retro game)" video and the configuration piece of the video takes maybe 3-5 minutes but he spends the first 10 minutes of the video telling us about his setup, his experience, the history of the game, like man I don't give a fuck just tell me about what the title of the video says.

>> No.5886281

They do this to get their watch hours up. If you don't hit a certain amount of hours, I think it's 4,000 in one year, then you don't get monetization. Money ruins everything.

It is a Majesco reprint from 97-98, label is on paper with no gloss layer and cartridge feels lightweight.

Other than that is the same game and it will play just fine.

Sad thing is that it comes back to the same harsh truth, the youtube retro vidya community is mostly cancer, thanks to posers who clearly jumped in for attention and having some sort of power and control over it.

Real gamers despise these people.

I haven't watched the video, but is it basically
"Majesco obtained the rights to reprint certain SNES games. Instead of a precautions sticker on the back shell, the text is molded directly into the plastic. The front label sticker is not glossy and of a lower quality than the original releases. Some Majesco carts didn't even have an artwork label, but instead a plain, text-only label."
