A while ago I bought a Flashback 2 for 5$ at the thrift store.
I tried it out recently to find out it doesn't work or turn on properly.
The screen usually either flickers a but but it mostly stays black.

I'm a bit disappointed but now I'm curious and I want to pop it open just to see how the inside looks.
Is there any proper way to open it?
I removed the only 4 screws but it's still reluctant to open, I'm afraid of breaking anything even though it already doesn't work.

There might be another screw hidden under a sticker. Check for that?

You're right! Thanks anon, I didn't think of that.

Isn't that the model people were modding to take carts?

I think so from what I looked up, I don't know much about modding retro games and whatnot.
Will probably post pictures of the inside once I get it open, I don't know much about technology.

I am no expert, but a couple solderings seem off.
Anyway, have a look here, maybe it could help.

Check all the electrolytic caps (black cylinders) for bulging or leaking, any that are like that will need to be replaced

>>5876613
Clean the PCB with a brush and water / distilled vinegar / water again, especially the brown gunky looking parts ... obviously let it DRY before trying to turn it on again.

>> No.5877514

there wasn't anything worth playing on the atari aside from Hero.

Hahaha, challenge accepted I guess.

>>5877186
Do you really think it can be saved? The screen on the tv was black and only flickered a bit with no image when I turned it on.
I decided to keep it intact so I'll check it out when I can.

>>5877514
Oof, desu I never played any Atari games before, I mostly only played Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo

Oh definitely, I usually just occasionally lurk the board.

>>5877186
I looked it up and it would be better to use isopropyl alcohol instead of vinegar and water on the PCB.
