It's kind of amazing that a $25 mini computer is my entire retro gaming setup, and this is coming from someone who's owned N64s, PS1s, etc. It does just enough to where it was worth the life change from having an autistic shrine in my living room of video game consoles, to now a normie friendly frontend with enough accuracy for me. I agree with you, but I was bothered that retropi could not run cycle accurate emulators.
So I've built a core i9-9900k, RTX 2070, 16GB RAM, 1TB Samsing NVME mini-ITX desktop.
Now I can play retro games using the most accurate profiles for emulation without the risk of frameskipping or desync between the actual hardware chips, since the emulator core is running way over 2 times the highest frequency of the emulated machines, thus being rendered Nyquist compliant using the accurate code.
I also use Arch Linux since it has has such a fine grained control of what is installed and what is running on the background, also using the most acurate OpenGL and Vulcan drivers, so the emulator processes can be bare metal as possible.

My major point isn't that the SNES Mini is the right way to play old games, just that it's the way I choose to play and it makes itself obvious by being a miniature replica of a SNES.
