I've been meaning to make a chart of just 10 great games for multiple systmes with the usual suspects ruled out - so no Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, etc. I even have my list written down, it's just a matter of making it.

I still remember playing through this as a kid and always wondering how big the map truly was. My cartridge wouldn't save because the battery fell out (you could actually hear it rattling around inside the cartridge) and when I wanted to play it I would either play for a bit and look at the map in the library and imagine what each dungeon and location would contain, or I would play until the 2nd dungeon and have no idea where to go afterward losing all my progress when I'd have to turn it off later. Hard to think I basically explored around 70% of the map by that point, it always seemed bigger.

Is there an "essential retro JRPGs" chart? I've been putting together a list of ones that I've heard are essential/life-changing/best ever, but a) I don't have time to play all these, and b) I don't believe all of them can really be that good.

If anyone can help me whittle the list down to only the very best (or add any I've missed) I'll happily make a chart out of it, if nothing similar exists.
