Can we get a JRPG thread going? The other related thread turned into a shitstorm halfway through, so.

What JRPGs are you playing? What JRPGs have you recently finished?

I'm just about to replay Valkyrie Profile and FFVI. Haven't played either game in a few years, finally getting back around to buying back parts of my game collection, so I'm really looking forward to playing these two again.

in the last couple of weeks i've played through final fantasy and actually finished it for the first time. it was a really satisfying experience. i also just recently beat FFIX, first time playing and first time beating it. for me i think it was right up there with FFIV, i absolutely loved it. i've also played through dragon warrior 1 for the first time, loved it, and i'm playing dragon warrior II as well as dragon quest V.

i also started legend of legaia a while back, but my memory card crapped out on me when i was 12 hours in and i haven't felt like redoing all that just to continue, even though i was loving the game. i'll definitely play it again and finish it at some point.

oh, and i'm also currently playing through FFVI for the first time.

I've been juggling like 6 games for the past few months. It all started when my brother gave me his old PSP for my birthday and I started learning all about CFW and all that jazz.

I started replaying all my old favorites that I havn't played in ages, like Suikoden II, Star Ocean 2, FF7, and Legend of Dragoon. Some great anon let me know about the Suikogaiden fan translation and after messing around with files all day I'm about to start that up tonight, although I guess that doesn't really count, considering it's a text adventure. I'm also addicted to Trails in the Sky, a surprising /v/ recomendation that's proven very addicting,

I also bought the DS version of Chrono Trigger last week and just got to the floating city. It's been so long and I forgot how much fun this game is.

I'm finishing pic related.
Took me a little over an hour to complete the first map, but damn if I didn't kill the Blue Dragon Knights.

I've been playing Phantasy Star 3 lately. I hated 1 and 2, but this one is nice so far, the music especially. The graphic style and the bleak, lonely atmosphere makes me think of 7th Saga which I enjoyed.
I hear 4 is even better, so I'm excited for that.

>> No.581782

I finished FFVI for the first time a few weeks ago, shit was pretty glorious.

>> No.581807

Recently finished Tales of the Abyss on my 3DS a few weeks ago. It was pretty good, but for the most part, I thought the story was quite cheesy. Luke is a whiny bitch for most of the game. I only thought the story picked up in the end. Anyway, the game play was really fun and I enjoyed it. All of the characters had good personalities for most of the game. Overall, pretty good. I would recommend to pick it up at about 20 to 25 dollars if you were to get it, not at full retail price though.

I'm on JRPG limbo right now.

Started a Dragon Quest series run, played I-VI, stopped on VII.
Started a Final Fantasy series run, played I-IV, stopped on V.
Started a BOF series run, played I-III, stopped on IV.
Started a Suikoden series run, played I-III, stopped on IV.

So I don't really know what to play next. I want to finish one of those runs someday.

Well, to be fair, you'll probably need those kind of stats to beat the that hidden ?4 scenario.

But no, that screenshot is not mine. I'm playing on my PSP. I just used some random image from google.
I'll probably get the characters to max level but won't stat max them.

Currently working on the first Phantasy star, having fun at the tower that I assume Lassic is in somewhere and being frustrated at how the path to the top goes through all 7 floors three times, my graph paper map cannot hold much more of it...Without me having to go buy more graph paper anyway.

Also managed to get somewhere in the second one, although i'm still trying to remember what I was doing as I had to stop playing it for 6 months and now I don't feel like playing it for the 6 hours it's probably gunna take me to figure out what the hell I was doing.

I've played damn near every English translated JRPG, yet I haven't really touched the classic Phantasy Star games. I've tried playing all four of them, but haven't really given them enough time. Visuals and everything always looked really awkward and put me off.

>> No.582771

>>582723
Is that so? I only really found the visuals in the second one to be a bit off, but that's more because it was a near launch title.

Personally, I think the first game has far better graphics than most of the other 8-bit RPGs of the time, if only the combat wasn't so bare bones...

What put me off the first two the most is the often convoluted progression and tedium.
2 especially with its annoying red screen flash and BWOO BWOO BWOO every time somebody gets hit.

It's fucking glorius isn't it? There's also Metal Saga for the PS@ if you like the whole "customize tanks and kill monsters" gameplay aspect. (felt the combat was inferior to MMR but what you ?)

I've been playing Persona 3 and 4. Beat 4, was trying to beat 3 but my PS3 had to be formatted and my save files got corrupted on my flash drive somehow so now I have to play the game over. It's a real bitch too since I was literally a couple hours from finishing the game.

Been playing Chrono Trigger for the Ps1 on my Ps2 and that's cool, haven't touched FF4 yet though I've played it before, never beat it

Gonna get Persona 2 from PSN and Imma get a vita so I can get some of those remakes they're slapping onto the Ps3.

I really look forward to playing Growlanser again

I dropped many JRPG's that were a bit too dull. Right now I am playing Romancing SaGa 3 in short bursts. I am constantly finding myself in areas I shouldn't be which can be amusing.

I just did this afternoon. Didn't like the ending as much as the one in FF IV, but the final fight, while easy, was pretty fucking good.

I like how you can redo it as you wish because of the huge character roster.

Is not the most popular falcom game, but c'mon, is not as obscure as Arcturus, for example.

Talking about Arcturus, it could be possible that falcom took the "2D sprites on a 3D enviroment" idea from Gravity?
