I got ta say that I was enjoying the early parts of this game (and Shadow Warrior) where ammo was relatively scarce. The downside to playing a lot of Doom mods like Doom Incarnate is that there's barely a sense of resource management and you never have to scrounge or resort to melee to dispatch enemies.

Finished Turok 2 Remastered. I loved it.
The level design wasn't that painful as I remember(Hive of the Mantis and Primagen Lightship were pretty difficult).
The arsenal is awesome too, so are the enemies and the soundtrack.
What I disliked was the way it punishes you for not getting all the objectives nut that's not a big deal.

Ion Fury is just mediocre... I liked the demo mission, but the first levels of the final game is just a typical community trope collection, scatterbrained Build porn, overdetailing, confusing layouts, switch hunting and poorly designed monsters. Some of the OG Duke devs like Allen Blum should have designed this game instead of amateurs.

I have found more success shilling Hideous Destructor to people who already like tacticool shooters (a-la old school Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon/ARMA/Flashpoint/etc) instead of people who just like DOOM. There's crossover for sure (I'm one of them that likes both), but I think it's much more rare to find a random Doom player that likes tacticool combat than it is to find a player who already likes tacticool shit and just get them to try this Doom mod.

While Eric's gameplay is fantastic, I would also encourage you to include gameplay from other tiers of players, not just the tip top tier. If you only show veterans, then people might think the only way to enjoy HD is to be good at it already, and when they try it and they suck initially, that might discourage them. The journey of suck is a big part of the experience imo.

Is it just me or is Ion Fury's highest difficulty (Maximum Fury) not that bad?

I haven't finished the game on it, mind you. But so far what I've played on MF doesn't seem that horrifying as Civvie feared in his review. Seems pretty doable, specially with the weapons being so powerful. Even abusing Loverboy's alt-fire cowboy execution thing while crouching, weaving, and jumping around is more than enough for many encounters

All these franchises making a comeback looked so promising but so far they went downhill not too much later.
Look,I'm hyped for Eternal but Bethesda track record has been a disaster lately. And makes me fear they could interfere with the development.
I fear that id software showed us only the good parts and hiding the bad ones.
It doesn't help how bad the Doom community became around the time Eternal was first revealed at E3 2018.
In Social Media, forums etc.
It became unbearable for me and doesn't feel the same anymore, I only found anything pleasant by the community mods(even with the occasional drama).
In the end I'm hyped and fear the day Eternal comes out. Because if it turns out to be mediocre or worse than Doom 2016(which I liked) or straight up bad, then it's going to be nuclear.

Greasy Bastard is in a lot of hot water so the future of Duke isn't certain yet.
I think there's still enough love for Duke from people who liked Duke Nukem 3D.

Shadow Warrior 2 I wouldn't even argue is mediocre, I would argue it's below average. It seems it killed the reboot as a series because I haven't heard anything at all about it since.

Wolfenstein took an absolute fucking nosedive after Machine Games switched the dev team, but there's still one more game left (Youngbloods was apparently a spinoff). It's not looking good so far, but if we're REALLY lucky, maybe it's the old dev team who will make the last game.

Quake is very uncertain. Machine Games said they were interested in doing something with the IP, which depending on what dev team gets it could be either great news or a tragedy.

I've seen so many discussions on franchises reboots but how about a Turok reboot/sequel?
Yes, there was a reboot in 2008 but that kinda sucked. Prey 2006 felt more like Turok.
Anyway, I think an upgrade system would be neat,for example you start with a bow, then you level it up and becomes a Tek bow.
It could avoid the arsenal to feel cluttered. Keep the Cerebral Bore, it's iconic.
About Turok himself, either Joshua or Tal'Set would be fine, not a fan of Danielle and Joseph.
More power ups like using thunders and summon animal spirits as companions.
A berserk mode where you wield two tomahawks and slash the enemies, like the katana in Shadow Warrior.

6 months ago I tried some "manual" mapping, but the project changed a lot since then, I wanted every run to be a unique experience. It's now closer to a Heretic/Hexen-like dark fantasy setting across 6 thematic zones. I also included a waypoint system like D2. No inventory or loot management.

The flak mace is fucking awesome. The satisfaction in using that weapon comes from killing enemies and seeing them fly a hundred feet away or slam into and stick to a wall. And the game doesn't really get truly great until episode 4. Also, to be honest none of those games are really that great. Dusk starts pretty good but around the halfway point it starts to drop in quality. I'm really not that big of a fan of the third episode. Its also just way too fucking easy. The only way to make the game harder was to play the one hit and you're dead mode which is such a lazy, bullshit way of making a "Hardest" difficulty. I just finished Ion Fury so I'm still processing what I thought about it, but in general I thought the enemy design was just okay and the levels became pretty bland after the first few zones. The only level I thought was memorable later on was Heskel's House of Horrors which is clearly one of the levels they put the most time into. Its really fucking good. The weapons felt good to use for the most part but there were too many throw-able explosives. Amid Evil isn't the most consistent game but I thought episode 4 and 6 blew anything else in the other games out of the water. Its also the only game out of the three to have half decent boss fights.

I think they dried to emulate "smart" enemies of FEAR and HL2 that announced their tactics.

Then each game takes that base for their game code and expands on it differently.

The enemy variety is lacking, and what variety there is doesn't really seem like it's used to its full potential.

Similarly, the weapon variety is lacking and there's a distinct lack of punch to the higher end weaponry. You'll be using revolver and shotgun/grenade launcher 99.9% of the time.

The crossbow feels absolutely pointless unless it's allowed to overcharge, and then it's a room-clearing superweapon. Which is... fine, I guess, but its sprite gives very little feedback as to the true nature of its charging mechanic.

The cluster puck is beastly but... why so incredibly rare?

Minigun feels underpowered, and the uzis were honestly better in early access when I didn't have to worry about burning myself with them. The fire doesn't even seem to be particularly effective against enemies anyway.

It's perfect, dunno why but it's just perfect for this game and there's just so little I dislike about all of it. Episode three was the only one that felt a bit dragging on but I liked the industrial aesthetic and it has one of my favorite levels in it.

I don't mind if people need training wheels or want to play how they want as long as they understand how important it could be to shoot specific areas of an enemy. I've generally seen autoaim just direct towards the center of an enemy when you could, say, shoot them in the face.

As paradoxical as it sounds, turn off autoaim if you havent already. It makes aiming the shotgun much easier when you have a consistent idea of how your shots hit, letting you zoom around with it for headtaps.
The pistol is your best friend when clearing hallways, flick and right click over all goons and skull-trites.
The grenade launcher and bowling-bombs are godsends. Use them like you would dynamite in Blood.
The penetrator is a great panic weapon. Use the single one when you're surrounded by mooks, use the doubles when you need to dome a tankier enemy.
It's certainly not Doom levels of fast, but using these tactics I didn't have much issues keeping a good pace.

Certain Oblige with obaddon settings feels lots like the Warframe procedural maps, we pair that with a good monster mod like xvme or dmgmod, textures, and a gameplay mod like dakka or PB. Sadly Zandronum is dying slowly, and not supporting the newer mods out there.

I haven't played Duke in years, and don't own a copy any more, so I got it today. eduke32, all working fine, and I got stuck on the first level for multiple minutes because I couldn't figure out where to go. In my defense, I wasn't used to how high duke could jump, and also kept getting distracted from opening a door, and I am immensely stupid. Plus I was getting weirded out by the novelty of looking up and down after playing a lot of doom with no vertical mouselook. But mostly jesus christ I was less stupid than this as a kid.

I never did like the Build games as much, but maybe I'll actually try Blood after this.

Ion Fury's a bit meh.

The levels feels like the enemies were just slapped in at the end. The enemy AI is absolutely dumb as FUCK. They don't even approach you 90% of the time they just stand there.

And lots of scripted segments just don't work lots of times. I had to reload a save 5 times because a scripted segments wouldn't happen correctly where enemys come into a room for a big shoot out

I think it's just basic demand. Guys like looking at pretty girls, and girls like playing dress up. Not as many guys like look at men, and not as many girls like playing as men when they can choose one or the other. So, since dev time and resources are limited, you just go with what will make more money.
