Its fucking great but I'd hardly place it as a top 5 or 10 Bomberman game, much less the best.
And why the hell did they use the third boss for the boxart? Really, why?

>> No.5797904

I remember having this game for my Game Boy Color. I liked it back then, but I did a recent replay of some older classic Bomberman games, threw this one into the mix, replayed it for the first time in decades, only to not even care enough to finish it. It's "okay" and tries something different, mixing 2D platforming with Bomberman gameplay was worth trying at least once to break up the repetition of the series, but the end result to me felt like a step down from the more traditional Bomberman gameplay.

Bomberman Quest, Tournament and Jetters (GBA) were legit excellent action/exploration games. I swear I'd rather pick up Quest than any of the portable Legend of Zelda games. Hell, those even have multiplayer mode available in case you want something more traditional.

Still, I do agree that a lot of these older Bomberman games really deserved a port/collection much like Sonic, Castlevania and others series get.

Honestly aside from the novelty of 10 player mode (which is locked to 3-4 stages depending on your game), the battle mode of that game isn't that exceptional. Super Bomberman 5 is more fun at 5 players and less.
>>5802456
Bomberman games almost never get rereleased. It might be kind of pathetic to beg for repacked roms, but it'd be cool to see a collection, and with online multiplayer it'd be an actual worthwhile purchase.

Not even a true Bomberman.

The best ones are Saturn Bomberman and Bomberman Blast.

>> No.5802518

Pocket is a lot of fun.

My favorite will always be Second Attack, even if I recognize it has problems and is kinda hard for me to go back to now. When I was a kid nothing got me more hyped than Second Attack. Also even with just 4 players it has the best multiplayer in the series.

>>5802456
>>5802506
The thing is most bomberman games are so similar it’s almost silly to have a collection of them.

If they combined everything from the past games, like a Bomberman Ultimate kind of deal, that could be cool. The 3D games might not work with that but it would be feasible with the gridbased ones. As long as there’s enough customizability to tweek settings however you like, that would be pretty perfect.

If they put out an ultimate bomberman though it might be hard to sell future ganes, since they’d actually have to do something fucking new with the series.

There's no patch. I played through it in jp. I know some basic Japanese so I managed to get around and understand a bit of the story. I do remember someone at romhacking trying to translate it.

Am I the only one who enjoyed Dodge Battle more than the traditional multi-player? Generation was always my favorite for that reason alone.

Traditional multiplayer + Curse/Skull + No tie + Revenge Cart is still my favorite mode. Generations and Online still had some REALLY fun ideas for multiplayer and I genuinely don't remember one that I didn't like.

I was unimpressed with Generations solo player content, but the multiplayer was good. I did love the dodge mode, and I REALLY liked all the options you had in multiplayer. Being able to set the items to specific amounts, or set it so you start the match with certain powerups was really cool.

I haven’t played many new bombermans since cause they’re kinda samey, but do the new ones still have these options?

>I haven’t played many new bombermans since cause they’re kinda samey
To be fair, most Bomberman games are same-y, with a couple of them standing out due to changes to the formula (Pocket, Hero, 64, Second Attack!, Quest, Tournament, etc...). Still, I have Super Bomberman R on PS4 and it's actually pretty fun. Single player content ranges from good to meh, but the multiplayer is pretty fun.

>but do the new ones still have these options?
Nope. Only the "regular" multiplayer is in the more recent ones. Super Bomberman R does have however, two interesting maps: Power Room, where there's no soft blocks and each player starts with every item and Speed Room where players start with maximum speed. Actually, I'd say that the multiplayer rooms are extremely varied in this game, shame about the lack of customization options in other aspects.

Man, I just replayed Second Attack! this last weekend and had a fucking blast. That's one solid single player campaign, second only to Saturn Bomberman.
