ss2 is a good ss but not even close to SNK's best fg, and snk themselves could never come close to making the 'greatest fighting ever.' SNK vanilla runnerups for their best fg go to: ss2, garou, kof98, kof02 and thats kind of about it. CvS2 has high rankings but that was made by capcom.

on the capcom side we have for possibilities: mvc1, mvc2, ST, cvs2, and 3s.

Fightans are multiplayer games, that means you are held hostage by how many people play them.
Waku 7, Ninja Masters and Last Blade 2 are gorgeous games but nobody plays them so it just ends up being a waste of time. At least back in my neighborhood there were a small group of people who loved Rage of Dragons.

It's hard to beat it for overall balance, where the entire roster is viable and satisfying to use. I don't like the RNG duels, but at least they add variety.

My vote goes to Street Fighter Alpha 3, but the console version, specifically the Dreamcast version, because of the extra characters. It's a damn shame that the console version wasn't included in the Street Fighter Collection.
