The differences actually make me prefer both versions more, insteada of having to just pick one. Why not both?
When I got All Stars back in the day I remember thinking smb2 looked the best out of all the remakes on the cart. The detailed and colorful background graphics on the first impressed me.

I mean, you're not wrong, and I do agree that SMB3 looks better on NES the same way Kirby's Adventure looks better on NES (no clutter, simple and easily readable pallette, no gradients etc.), but the way you phrased it with the whole "soul/soulless" shit makes me wanna puke.

I think maybe you guys are less interested in playing games and more interested in just being derisive in general but can't actually hit any hard hitting controversies, instead swinging for low-hanging fruit only you could possibly care about, like "they changed the colour of the caves" or "now the blocks have rounded edges" or "but muh clouds"
I'll give you that the lego egypt is retarded but so is throwing mushrooms at a snake, you fuckin' absolute nonce

This is why modern gaming is where it is; rather than talk about the actual game, you idiots took a collection pack of classics intended to bring them to modern accessibility and decided to bitch about cave colours

>> No.5800046

You may have a point with 3 and 1, but smb2 is not an iconic game. It's a generic asset flip on the NES and the gba release actually makes it worth playing. Literally nobody gives a shit about 2/super mario bros USA on NES, so the remake on gameboy advance was the perfect way to fix the asset flip flaws from the original.

That's a sign that your soul is in an embryonic state; your strong reaction shows that there's a seed of soulfulness in you. If you're ever able to fully embrace it then you'll also naturally embrace the idea that soullessness and soulfulness are discernable characteristics found in creative mediums, and that there's more to aesthetic discernment than a pretty/ugly spectrum captures.

Almost every aesthetically sensitive person recognizes it in most of the same things for the same reasons. It's a resonance not that unlike how people who aren't tone deaf instinctively know when notes are off key. Geeks are notorious for being totally oblivious to it. It's beauty that's deeper than cleanliness or impressiveness, usually because it captures some kind of life; either the life that's in the artist (something like how a child's drawing might capture its innocence or naivety), or that it's strongly conveying some kind of life through a non-living medium (often strengthened by some kind of intentional or unintentional imperfections), which when it happens seems like magic. The jokey shorthand for that is soul.

lol, they kept the progression of powering up and down in future games similar to the US version of smb 3 for a reason. It is a better balance. I am probably less of a zommer faggot than you easily. Castlevania 3 US is the best castlevania hands down and I bet you are a rondo of blood fanbaby. I bet you also prefer the snes to nes you cock sucking zoomer.

>> No.5805693

>>5805658
NES > SNES, CV3 > Rondo, and SMB3's only real failing is lack of difficulty which the JP corrects to a small degree at least. How you can think that the easier version of an already much too easy game--if not at release than definitely now, decades later--is a step up makes no sense unless you munch on male pubis.

>> No.5805734

>>5805693
SMB 3's difficulty was just right. It was an 8 world game with like 7 levels in each world. It didn't need to be the lost levels. It didn't try to overly punish you and it treated you fair. A LOT of people honestly consider it too hard, not that I agree with them. I really doubt you will find many people at all who will agree with you on this.
