What do You guys think about fighting games for home consoles? We do know that most of them are ports of arcade ones. Did You guys know about this gem in the pic? Have a solid gameplay, better than some of newer platforms.

None of them are as good as arcade games and the ones that were close are now sad reminders of what could have been.

Joy Mecha Fight is pretty good. I know it was late in the Famicom's lifespan, but I'm surprised that there weren't more 8-bit fighting game experiments like that.

Weaponlord is crazy complex ...sadly the low frames animation kinda kill it ... I always wondered why there never was a remake, even if by fans ! And how killer instinct didnt have some character as cameo on xbox !!!

Fighting games are wicked hard to make well so they're rarely fan projects. And the game just plain didn't sell well enough to warrant a sequel. The other thing about fighters is people tend to just focus on a couple of games so unless it's good enough to be a real hit it's forgotten.

It was supposedly Namco's inspiration for Soul Edge though. So that's something.

But anon, we had a somewhat "doujin fighting boom" in the 00s. Akatzuki Blitzkampf, Melty Blood, Under Night In-Birth, Touhou fightings were descent products.

Decent, sure but other than mealty blooq they're all forgotten. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Weaponlord revived, I just don't see it happening.

UNIEL fucking rules, it's like a step between Street Fighter and Guilty Gear. My ex stole my copy of it for PS3, might get the PS4 version

UNIST was at evo and blitzkampf has playable characters in both UNIST and BBTag. There's always hope for poverty fighters.

The Amiga had a couple of unique fighting games that also weren't ported to other systems. Not all were good, some were mediocre, but some I really enjoyed like Elfmania, wich was kinda unique with its ultra fast loading times and learning AI.

And I'm talking about games like Body Blows (which was ported to PC), Capital Punishment, Dangerous Streets or Fightin' Spirits

Budokan: The Martial Spirit also was a fighting came which was developed for various home computers but ported later to the Mega Drive.

The Gundam Battle Assault games are pretty much the epitome of the "console" fighting game to me.

They're surprisingly solid games (that can get a bit goofy if you use the giant bosses), despite being licensed. They're made by Natsume and the music for them is composed by the guy that did Wild Guns.

They feel really distinct with characters that feel like mechs would, heavy and slow, but since there's a thruster mechanic to do boost dashes and fly around the stage matches tend be over pretty quickly, they also have an ammo mechanic so certain attacks can only be used so much before they're exhausted.

They also look fairly distinct because they use paper doll style animation with multiple parts that make up a character.

I can't speak for the rest of them (though I've noticed the Under Night games seem to be well regarded) but the Toohou fighting game series that starts with Immaterial and Missing Power is amazing, it's a completely different kind of versus fighter than anything that came before it.

I should note though that IaMP and Scarlet Weather Rhapsody/Hisotensoku seem to be a Melee/Brawl situatiion, added more characters but also elements of randomness.

Amiga games look so weird and off.
