Is the Phantasy Star series worth playing?

>> No.5781721

I should mention that Breath of Fire is my favorite JRPG series, and Ogre Battle is my favorite all-time game. This looks interesting but I don't know if the huge time investment is worth it, with so many titles in the series.

probably yes

>Breath of Fire is my favorite JRPG series
in that case no

Don't see how anyone can play PS2 without nostalgia goggles. Difficult and boring fights, long and confusing dungeons with battles every three steps, having to go back to your house to get new party members, and so on.

1 and 2 are good but the extremely slow walking and combat speed might put you off. The PS2 remakes are good (except for the art which sucks) and fix these problems, 3 is alright, 4 still holds up extremely well.

Yes, especially 4. I love them all though. 1 is probably my favorite 3rd gen RPG.

2 is good if you enjoy long, confusing dungeons with difficult fights. It's not super difficult, but exploring can feel dangerous. Plus the atmosphere and setting is cool despite the limited graphics and story. I prefer 1 over 2 by a bit though.

3 isn't that great, but it has a few interesting things like playing as the next generation and alternate paths depending on who you marry. It's a flawed game with some cool ideas. Too bad it never got a remake.

1 is novel for a console RPG, especially for it's time
2 is a nightmare in terms of grinding and dungeons. If you're going to play it, make sure to use an unnumbered map as the game originally came with dungeon maps in it's manuel. Anyone who didn't use the maps it a tryhard or retarded
3 is not good at all
4 is one of the greatest RPGs of all time

I'm playing the first game on my Wii. It's pretty good, and if you explore and make your maps and notes, it's actually feasible to play without guides.

pretty sure some of the recent re-releases of 1 have a map on the side of the screen that builds as you explore

Yeah I saw that version. I always prefer to play original and on the future the remake/masters

There's four, m8. Even so, nobody's forcing you to play all four. 2 and 3 are really for the completists, only worth it for the existing phans, that leaves you with only two games to worry about as a newcomer, dunnit. PS1 if you're a hard cunt who likes getting lost in dungeons and using NPC clues to figure out where to go next or PS4 if you want a more laid back handholdy but very well presented and charming, accessible game. Once you;'ve crunched those two maybe you can think about giving a crap about the middle ones.

Oh have a sook ya sloppy turd. With the exception of Ikuto, which is a genuine piece of fuck, any non-braindead twit can blunder their way through the dungeons without too much trouble without resorting to being a cheap wanker.

No it didn't. Only the US version had them.
